Question

Delivery person damaged sonos arc ultra box

I ordered Sonos arc ultra from Reliance digital. It was a box in a box delivery. At the time of delivery, the delivery person dropped the box at one end while taking it from his van and then dragged it on the road and on the stairs.

  1. Will this mishandling can cause damage to the soundbar may be in the form of minor defect or a micro defect which may become significant after some time?
  2. After a week long painstaking efforts, I convinced reliance digital to replace the product. But now they are saying that replacement is not available, the product will be available after a month or so. I spent a lot of time to get the good deal during this purchase. This deal is not applicable after a month. Can you advice me what to do?

I’m not sure about the situation in India, but in Europe, I’ve generally had good experiences with carriers... though things can happen.
In any case—is the Arc Ultra visibly damaged? Does it work?
If it works and there are no visible defects, I probably wouldn’t worry about it—the product is protected inside the box, so damage shouldn’t have occurred... (unless it came into contact with some kind of liquid).
If it doesn’t work, you should file a claim with the carrier and provide photos showing that the packaging was damaged. The catch, however, is that once you accept a shipment, the carrier considers it successfully delivered and will argue that you shouldn’t have accepted it in the first place.
And if you’ve already arranged a claim with the carrier but the Arc Ultra is out of stock (which is strange), you have no choice but to wait.
Good luck! :-)

Thanks for the reply. :-)

I am more worried about the damage caused from the dropping at one corner while taking it out from the van than the dragging.

Unfortunately, I could not open and see the soundbar. The sales representative asked me not to open it, if I am aiming for replacement/refund.

I think I will wait for some time or ask for return.

Sonos packs things pretty sturdily. That slight dent shouldn’t harm anything, and if it is visibly fine and operates correctly, I would not worry.

The Arc Ultra is covered by a Sonos warranty for manufacturing defects. I don’t know the time limit for your country but you should check it.

However, if there is something wrong internally that affects the Arc Ultra’s performance as soon as you connect it you’ll want to pressure the selling entity/carrier to make things right. Dropping and dragging the box by the carrier is ridiculous.

EDIT:

My research shows that Reliance Digital is similar to a Best Buy in the US. That said by reputation Reliance should be willing to accommodate a return/exchange when more product is in stock and the same price point you paid upon initial order.

Thanks for the reply.

Absolutely. I was equally shocked when I learned how the delivery person had handled the soundbar box. My biggest concern is that the impact during delivery could lead to defects developing over time, even if the soundbar appears to be working fine initially. Since physical damage is generally not covered under warranty, I am concerned about its long-term reliability.

I have escalated the matter to the next level and sincerely hope they will come back with a positive resolution.

@NirajGanesh, Don’t worry. The Arc Ultra does not sit "naked" inside the shipping box.

Thanks for the video. If the sound bar box has crash guards, then the drop should not be the problem.
