I play record deck via a cartridge amp and Mac book through line in to Play 5 gen 2. I have tried to link a Cowon Plenue D via line in. But there is no sound. Can this work ?

It should work. The outlet on that device is simply a 3.5mm headphone jack.
I’m not entirely sure why you’d want to play files through a digital music player into a Line-In, as opposed to indexing a copy off network storage and having Sonos stream them directly, unless it’s just for convenience.
