I bought a Sonos 5 because the salesperson told me it had an AUX which would allow me to plug it into my MacBook Pro to play while composing in GarageBand. It does not appear to work. Any ideas?

Some things to try:
Choose the Line-in source on the Sonos app.
Increase volume on the Mac.
Adjust line-in level in Settings.
Try a different cable.

I'd certainly concur with jgatie. I use that same setup to listen to baseball games on TuneIn Premium. It should work.
If you have a pair of headphones handy, plug them in first, to make sure that the sound is being sent out through the headphone jack. That way, you can eliminate one side of the equation and work on the other side exclusively, by doing what jgatie suggests.
