I know that my Play-speakers ain’t working with Airplay. But, is it necessary to change both to Sonos One SL or will it work if I just change one of them and then make a group (consisting of one Play and one One SL)?

You only need one Airplay compatible speaker. You can play to other speakers by grouping.

When using Airplay you obviously won't be able to play different streams on the two speakers.

Note that you cannot stereo pair a Play:1 and a One.
