Adding a sub mini for music AND TV

I’m afraid that every time you want to use the sub with the other devices, you have to unbound it form the bar and link it to the Play1s and viceversa.

And, if I’m not wrong ,you will lose the TruePlay adjustments every time. 

It’s a pity, I would like to unbound sometimes my Era 300 to use them as stereo pair, but it’s a lot of work…

Thanks. Nice to know I’m not alone. It’s a shame Sonos don’t make it possible for their products to work together in this way.  Oh well.

When I tried grouping the beam and the stereo speakers I thought the music lost some clarity. Is adding the stereo pair as surrounds different in some way?
I’m thinking “switch between them” is referring to using tv and listening to music - there’s nothing to switch if stereo speakers are added as surrounds is there?

In the case of the Era 300 their behaviour is totally different when are installed as surround, because there are drivers cancelled. I suppose the rest of the speakers could be similar, even set as “full”. I don’t think it could be a perfect solution.

But when watching TV you now have to silence the Era 100’s? Or hear the rear channels play from the front?

I think the best option is to bound the Sub with the Beam, and group all devices together for music listening. The Beam will fill better de space of the room, and you’ll feel the Sub anyway. Perhaps you should increase the 100s volume to get more sound from them if you prefer this. 

But I agree to ask Sonos to think how we can use our speakers in an even more flexible way. The worst thing to me is loosing the TruePlay settings every time you unbound speakers. 

Sucks from a cost standpoint but dedicated stereo speakers are really the best option for stereo listening. Fives or an Amp and non-Sonos speakers would be my first choice.

However I have moved stereo listening to a lower priority despite the higher quality reproduction and am leaning to Atmos for music listening whenever possible. Both with a theater set or paired 300s, the sound has become my favorite. 

I don't feel the need for a Sub with my older Play 5 but one really impresses, particularly on Atmos tracks with the 300s.

Was considering dedicated stereo speakers - tried my Dali Opticon1s (and Audiolab amp) in the same place as the Play1s and honestly it wasn’t an improvement - the room is awkward. Maybe I will have to try again but add room correction. That’s why I ended up considering the sub mini - which seems to be on sale here in the uk for £339 (cheaper than from Sonos with 15% off upgrade).

We mainly listen to CDs ripped to NAS so Atmos isn’t in the picture.

If I go the dedicated speakers route then will probably end up with some flavour of WiiM amp - cost is so much less and there’s nothing to be gained from staying with Sonos - if I need multi room from time to time can use the Beam.

Maybe I should just take up knitting or jigsaws! 😜
