Hey Sonos, hear me out... (this will never work but, let's try it anyway). To regain trust from your customers after the App redesign, you could decide to open up your systems to OpenHome and allow users to add their custom voice assistant with home assistant.
This would be huge, there is a big community of makers and your devices are great and will easily be adopted as main voice assistant devices.
If you compare the quality of a Sonos Era or One SL to the voice assistant preview from home assistant... it's like night and day.
Let us add a custom voice assistant via API to our devices, people don't care much anymore about Google Home or Alexa. Let us have privacy and customization.

Sincerely, one happy customer that would love this feature.

Bare in mind that you can also add Sonos Voice Control on your Sonos System. Have a look at our tech-blog in regards to privacy for the Sonos Voice Control, since you’ve mentioned it.

I have over a dozen Sonos devices in my house but anytime people ask about them (usually impressed with the quality / ability to play music throughout the house) I highly discourage them from buying into the ecosystem because of how locked down it is. The simple change of opening up the mic to be used by Home Assistant would make me actually encourage people to buy their products (and upgrade some of my own).

It’s such an insanely easy task that would buy a lot of good will from customers, I really hope they prioritize this (but seeing how its been 9 months with no word… typical Sonos and exactly why I dont recommend their products 🙄)

I fully support that idea. Its fine that their streaming service is locked down for simple use, but voice assistant would be a perfect match and would trigger me and multiple friends of mine use more sonos products and recommend those to friends.
