Any news on Sonos adopting the Matter standard?
Not so far.
SONOS does not publish a roadmap. New features just arrive.
Currently, Matter is a relatively new standard. Maybe it will become a universal “must have” such as Bluetooth. It’s been interesting that traditional audio manufacturers had been slow to adopt Bluetooth, preferring their own proprietary systems. I expect similar for Matter. Matter adoption will likely be more rapid because is it supported by big players, such as Apple and Google.
There are few articles that are reasonably up to date. Here is one reasonably up to date discussion. Notice how many audio companies are mentioned? On the plus side SONOS is a member of the alliance.
What would be the actual point? Matter specs are moving at a glacial pace and still have no audio definitions, never mind multi-room audio. They only just added simple pairing for setup.
Sonos have had enough trouble with WiFi and mDNS, standards that have existed for years, I doubt they want to add support for a half-baked new ‘standard’.
Not that I follow Matter much, but does it even work for the data needed to stream music? I’ve always considered it to be wide, but low amounts of content/data. Not a replacement for WiFi.

Matter is mostly about protocols for control, not so much for content delivery. From what I’ve seen there is way to cast audio/video within Matter, similar to chromecast or airplay, but there is no matter standard for multiroom audio. So I guess any matter standard would be about sending audio from your phone/tablet to a speaker, or possibly about control of multiroom audio, not for a long time anyway.
Even then matter works under Thread and WiFi.
I don’t think it matters at the moment.
