Howdy folks! The team is deployed a small update to the Sonos player firmware yesterday. This update has the usual bug fixes and performance improvements with a special callout for Apple Music issue that was causing a headache for some users.

Player Update

Player version 93.1-74010

  • Resolved an issue where Apple Music would occasionally skip to the end of a track

Strange coincidence:

 Pre-update.
A while back I decided to stop using Apple Music due to the unreliable behavior when streaming Spacial ( Dolby Atmos ) music.  Last night I decided to try Apple again.  I tried to play Copland: Billy the Kid on Naxos.  Around half way through the first track the system ( Arc-Sub-300s ) went silent while the app showed play was continuing.  All control was lost: could not pause, could not clear queue, could not do anything without error messages.  When the buffer emptied ( assumption ) control was restored.

Post-update:

This morning I took the update.  Then I tried Billy the Kid again.  This time it played all the way through.  Hopefully the update was the fix.  Further investigation will be required.

P.S.
When this Apple/Atmos issue happened in the past I did send diagnostics then called support.  They answered very quickly.  The support agent said it was WiFi interference.  When I told the agent the issue never happens with Amazon/Atmos or with any other service the support agent put me on hold for a short time.  When he came back he put the blame on Apple and that it was a known issue.
