Hey…

Maybe I‘m wrong on some thoughts, but that’s my current understanding on how Arc Ultra might work in detail.

Just like to share this… 😎

Thanks for sharing. Techradar got some answers from Sonos regading the 4 channels:
https://www.techradar.com/televisions/soundbars/sonos-confirms-some-missing-details-about-arc-ultra-and-says-its-app-now-has-90-percent-of-its-missing-features-back

“Sonos confirmed that are indeed two up-firing drivers, but the way they work with the rest of the soundbar makes them act like there are actually four upwards firing speakers – at least in theory. "The rear height arrays utilize a very strategic combination of the upfiring, outward firing and forward firing transducers to position it deeper in the room than the front height channels," the company said – so basically, it'll offer virtual rear height channels. However effective this is remains to be seen.”

Hi @Teem and thank you for the link.
I was really wondering on how Sonos is realizing „rear hight“ channel virtualization without any physical drivers placed in the rear.
And to be honest, I‘m not a fan of virtualization at all, because the results often are very poor and I think marketing is the main purpose of it. 😉

I use a Beam2 with Sub Mini and 2x Era100 as my ht device. I‘m quite satisfied with that setup as it offers Dolby Atmos at all. There’s not enough space for Era300s in the rear here. And the old Arc to me didn’t sound that much better than Beam2. So that was my choice and I‘m happy with it. But I‘m aware of the fact that, though Sonos calls it a 7.1.4 setup, it just plays 5.1 channels via dedicated drivers. The „rear side“ channels and all „front and rear hight“ channels use virtualization.

Before lately adding the Era100 to the system I used OneSLs as rears. Depending on the Atmos track now I sometimes can hear (or just imagine 😉) a difference. But for me that’s far away from really present sound of dedicated drivers.

So I doubt that even Arc Ultra in stand alone mode will be able to produce such an immersive 3D sound as marketing promises.

Sounds like people having got theirs already somehow are saying good things. Seems reviewers will have them soon as well.

Just Got My New Arc Ultra and it’s on ANOTHER LEVEL! Wow! This is how all home music systems should sound. I couldn’t be happier. I paired it with an original sub and two ERA 300. Best sounds I’ve gotten out of a home music system. This things blows away my original ARC… Now fix your app and we’re good… LOL

Same here...I got my new Arc Ultra and Sub 4 set up last night with my Era 300’s. I’m very pleased with the setup. I had an issue with the Era 300’s connecting. They were originally mated with my Beam 2 that I returned. I had to do a factory reset on the 300’s, and once I did that the Sonos app then recognized them. I’m 62, and blessed with a next door neighbor who’s an IT/Network guy.

I’m tempted to add a second Sub 4. I’m wondering what others experience has been adding a second sub.

BTW...I’m impressed with the Sub 4….very tight, not boomy and fat. Very realistic low information.

Too bad management made a hash of things, the Ultra would have made a good upgrade for my Playbase.

Why would I want to upgrade any of my Sonos kit after the hell I’ve been through the last 6 months.

Get your act together and sort out this terrible app - now!!!
