Sonos Listeners Club is now Live!

Related content:Sonos

Listeners Club is now live on sonos.com. Every Sonos account is a free membership and you’ll find it under the new Listeners Club tab in My Account. If you don’t have a Sonos account yet, anyone can create one and join.

A quick note on what this is. Some of these benefits are new and others have been around for a while. Listeners Club brings them together in one place for the first time, so if part of it looks familiar, that’s why.

What’s included

  • Listening Signals - a monthly dashboard showing how you use Sonos, from how often you listen to which rooms get the most play, how many products you’ve registered and which app features you use most.
  • Exclusive Unlocks - member-only offers and a chance to be among the first to hear what’s happening at Sonos.
  • Backstage Access - our new VIP Concierge, the beta program and this refreshed Community.

Here’s what my listening signals section looks like:

Frequently asked questions

What’s actually new?
Listening Signals and VIP Concierge are new. Member-only offers and the beta program were already part of your Sonos account and the Community got its refresh in October. Listeners Club is the first time all of these live in one place.

Where do I find my member perks?
Sign in at sonos.com and select the Listeners Club tab under My Account.

What happened to my upgrade credits?
Activated upgrade credits have moved from the Offers tab to Listeners Club. Nothing else about the Upgrade program has changed.

Do I need to own a Sonos product?
No. Anyone can join, though the membership is designed around owning at least one Sonos device.

Where is the Listeners Club available?
In every country where you can shop directly on sonos.com. VIP Concierge, which connects you with a Sonos expert for shopping and system-planning advice, is currently available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

How do Listening Signals work?
They give you a monthly snapshot of your Sonos usage: how often you use your products and the app, how many products you’ve registered and which app features you use. This relies on the Additional Usage Data setting in the Sonos app, so you’ll need that turned on to see your Signals. The dashboard refreshes monthly and the first update reflects data through September.

Can I turn Listening Signals off?
Yes. In the Sonos app go to Account > Privacy & Security > Additional Usage Data and switch it off. New Signals will stop being generated and you’ll still have access to everything else in the Listeners Club.

Can other members see my listening data?
No. Your individual listening data is never shared with other members. Sonos may use combined, de-identified data to show how your listening compares with other Sonos customers. You can request deletion of your personal data through your Sonos account, the Sonos app or by emailing privacy@sonos.com. More in the Sonos Privacy Statement.

Can I access Listeners Club in the Sonos app?
Not at this time. Listeners Club lives on sonos.com.

Why don’t I see all of my rooms in the System Profile card?
Listening Signals only reflect rooms you listened in during the month being reported. The System Profile card also shows a maximum of 4 rooms, so if you have more than 4 active rooms only the top 4 appear. If you have multiple products bonded in one room, you’ll see the room name rather than the individual products.

What about headphones?
Listening from Ace and Ace Ultra isn’t currently part of Listening Signals.

Have a look and drop your own Listening Signals in the replies. I’m curious how everyone compares and I’ll be following the thread and passing feedback along to the team.

This is a very nice addition, it deserves better than being hidden away behind a tiny icon and sub-menu. Please consider giving it a more prominent spot, even if only on the "hamburger" drop down menu.

It would also be nice to see a link to sonos.com at the top of the forums here. Maybe a direct link to the Club too?

You don’t see SONOS in the center top of this page? Above the Community banner. I’ve noticed that the text at the top disappears and reappears for no apparent reason.

Across the top:
Shop Learn Support Radio              SONOS                       cart

Nope, may be an Android tablet issue, like the invisible drop menu to the left of Sonos Community.

I dig it! It’s crazy to see how many hours I listen. And I imagine I’m a small fish, even after 9 years of Sonos.

Also funny that I (with the 9 Rooms that I use) see my usage is swamped by the spouse's TV soundbar (Room 10) that hasn't played a note of music since it was installed.

What are the other levels that you can achieve? I got a 95% score and am at Aficionado Level - is this the highest you could get? What does this level mean?

I’m not sure it really ‘means’ anything, it seems to be just a badge to make you feel good. Which it seems to do.

I suspect the more interesting part of your question, at least to me, is how many badges there are, and what are the ‘break’ points.

I’m curious as to how the ‘Recent Activity’ is measured. Is it in just 3 month increments, or does it choose the ‘highest’ three month period?

I’m somewhat amused that my time listened is more than twice yours, but I’ve been around longer (which probably has something to do with age ;)). Somewhat unsurprising that my first device was a Bridge…long since recycled.

Until the recent rash of Community updates there was a list of user post counts available for view. There was a summary of the top recent posters displayed on the main page along with an option to view a larger list. I haven’t seen it recently,, but a while ago there was a list of the named post count categories. Some of us elected to be omitted from these lists.

If you click on a user name you can view their post totals.

I'd like more info on how these are scored.

I have Rooms that are rarely listened to, like the dining room that usually sees use a couple holidays per year and the garage that ot be honest is more a spot to store my spare Play 3s and an extra Sub than a listening location. Then there is the office, the Beam surround system sees little use since I added a 300 Pair. Not forgetting the main location I use where I swap between a Play 5, a Play, a 300 Pair and my Arc Ultra set depending on what I am doing... all from the same recliner.

The features used is going to kill my score, play music from my Android and a bit of TV is pretty much all I do.

Still a fun page to look at now and then.

Only thing I'd ask is the ability to hide the spouse's Beam from the totals. Or maybe auto-filter cooking show reruns and sappy movies?

It may (emphasis here) be that first generation speakers aren’t reporting data to the cloud? Like the PLAY:1, PLAY:3, and PLAY:5 first generation speakers?

Mine says:

Joined On                Years active     Where it started     Lifetime listening minutes
February 2006         20                      ZP100                       _______

Too many to count! 😉

I know it’s probably just me, but I fail to see the value in this “Listening Signals”. Like I don’t know what gets used the most? Does knowing the exact percent of usage mean anything? Why would I care how many minutes were spent listening this month? As if Sonos knows if I’m “listening”.

(share data is off, was always off and will stay off)

I fail to see the value in this “Listening Signals”.

This information has no value to “me”. I don’t fail to see the value it has for Sonos. Which is why they collect this data. I’m sure the statistical analysis of this data is quite useful.

It seems bizarre to have the data displayed as such and with a score, as if listening to your sonos system was some kind of competition. A score?

This whole “Listening Signals” thing seems like something designed for Sonos’ internal use. I don’t understand why developer resources were spent to make it customer facing.

This is becoming ever more common, Amazon is sending me multiple emails as well as in-app notifications on my reading habits. Pushing them sucks, having them avalable is easily ignorable.

So 336 books this year, 315 days  a row and 424 weeks in a row. Fun if I want to go look, an aggravation if they nag me.
