📲 New Sonos App Update Now Available! 📲

Related content:Software

The team is deploying an update to the Sonos app today. This release is a big one for Android users that brings a long awaited feature back to the Sonos App. As always, you can look at previous updates in our App Release Notes and System (Player) Release Notes.

This will be another Phased Rollout, which means that the update may not get pushed to your system right away. Some iOS users update by going directly to the App Store. If you still do not see the update, try refreshing the App Store by pulling down (as if you were refreshing a page) on the Account page that shows all your pending app updates. Note that this rollout will take approximately 2 weeks to reach all users.

App Update

iOS - 82.00.39

Android - 82.00.45

  • Android Notifications (lock screen and watch controls)
    • Control your system instantly from your Android lock screen or smartwatch with fast, familiar playback controls—no unlocking required.
  • Improvements to multi-system support on Android
  • On the iOS App Store, the Sonos app is now rated 13+ (14+ in Brazil) to align with updated App Store age-rating guidelines.

Glad to know that Sonos is listening us and working to deploy the features we need!
Also happy to discover that al the people saying these features were an imposible thing, were wrong. Nothing is impossible!

Nobody ever said it was impossible.  We said it was out of Sonos' hands, and one should lobby the makers of the OS to change their rules.

Sorry, but it was always in Sonos hands, and many people underlined that months ago, talking about the potential solutions, like @Raguu (4 months ago) in the post I published:

Now everybody is happy with the solution developed by Sonos using the ways enabled by the mobile manufacturers, but 4 months ago it was something out of the Sonos hands 🤷🏽‍♂️. I don’t think so.

Is there any documented proof that those "rules" ever existed for Android?

So you agree, nobody ever said it was impossible?  As to it being out of Sonos’ hands, I’ll defer to you about the timing issue.  If I (and others) were misinformed about that, then mea culpa (but we still never said it was “impossible”).

A Sonos rep confirmed it in one of the various threads, which would be easy to find if this forum had even the most minimal of search functionality.

Wasn’t this about Apple’s restrictions only?
I remember the stories here about the hack with zero volume audio file silently playing in the Sonos app on iOS devices, which was discovered and prohibited by Apple at some point.
But this was about iOS devices only, not Android.

Agree but, for me, a Sonos feature request that should be solved by Google or Apple, is more or less the same than “impossible”.

And yet, here it is. Whether that was due to Sonos users lobbying at Google, we'll never know.  But the advice given here certainly didn't hurt.

This time the rollout was quick in my case. Everything works as intended, now I have again the control widget on the lock screen and in the notification panel on Android 16

Happy for you. I'm still waiting and honestly pretty upset by now. But I have given up on this company when it comes to software already so it fits into the narrative.
