πŸ“² New Sonos App Update Now Available! πŸ“²

Related content:Software

The team is deploying an update to the Sonos app today. This release is a big one for Android users that brings a long awaited feature back to the Sonos App. As always, you can look at previous updates in our App Release Notes and System (Player) Release Notes.

Β

This will be another Phased Rollout, which means that the update may not get pushed to your system right away. Some iOS users update by going directly to the App Store. If you still do not see the update, try refreshing the App Store by pulling down (as if you were refreshing a page) on the Account page that shows all your pending app updates. Note that this rollout will take approximately 2 weeks to reach all users.

App Update
Β

iOS - 82.00.39

Android - 82.00.45

  • Android Notifications (lock screen and watch controls)
    • Control your system instantly from your Android lock screen or smartwatch with fast, familiar playback controlsβ€”no unlocking required.
  • Improvements to multi-system support on Android
  • On the iOS App Store, the Sonos app is now rated 13+ (14+ in Brazil) to align with updated App Store age-rating guidelines.

That should please a lot of Android users (and upset a lot of IOS users, I suspect).Β

Does this require yesterday’s firmware updateΒ or will it work with the older version of the firmware?

Great update for Android users. It’s awesome to see lock screen and watch controls back finally. I’m really hoping iOS gets lock screen controls returned soon too.

    At last!

Lots of people here said that the lock screen thing is not possible due to Android restrictions. I guess that wasn't the case after all.Β

    Or Google changed the rules.

    Or Google changed the rules.

Correct, and Apple. OtherΒ platforms have had the Android and iOS controls for almost a year now. So I’m sure iOS lock controls will be added to Sonos soon 🀞

Or maybe some people took the advice offered by those who statedΒ those very real restrictionsΒ to lobby over at Google to have them change.Β Β

Apple and Google have a very simple enforcement system, follow their rules or be removed from their App Stores.

If the controls came back and Sonos is still available for installation either the rules changed or they aren't being enforced.

The rules changed for Android and iOS, sonos is just catching up (we all know why). Personally I’m looking forward to when Sonos adds this to the iOS controller, hopefully soon.Β
