Getting Started with Monthly Office Hours

Related content:Community

Hello everyone!

A few weeks back, we refreshed the community front page and launched a few initiatives to bring more value to the Community Forums and to highlight the knowledge and help what you all bring to one another. We’ve enabled Global Translations, brought deeper and more detailed and consistent content right to the front page and also kicked off the Request Line. Another big part of the content overhaul here on the Community is bringing Monthly Office Hours along.

The Monthly Office Hours were a staple of accountability and transparency over on Reddit a couple years back. The whole concept was to have a dedicated time where the larger community could ask questions rather than sliding into DM’s or playing whack a mole trying to find a thread where Sonos Staff are active.

At first, it was run by just myself. But as the months rolled on, I was able to bring teammates from across the entire Sonos organization such as: product managers, VP’s, even our CEO @Tom Conrad. As things settled on Reddit, feedback led us to shift Office Hours to quarterly cadence.

And now, with new features on the Community - we can finally bring Office Hours here.

So let’s get started...

These office hours are monthly, happening on the final Friday of every month. If that date falls on a holiday or a time when the office is closed (New Years, for example) It will happen the Friday before or the last Friday that the offices are open. I will post the Office Hours Announcement the Monday before the event to give the community time to get their questions in. I will always be “running the show”, but rest assured there will be more guests and regular hosts added in the future.

I am the head of the Global Communities Program at Sonos. I do not have knowledge of all the hardware and software (app) programs, I’m not the Legal Team and I don’t know finances. I also cannot give away all the secrets. But I do have experience as a Care Technician back when we were taking calls from Santa Barbara, CA. I’m happy to help whenever and however I can, but I do not have access to tickets or support cases. But I do have Slack - which means I can look into things and “elbow the jukebox”.

Live responding to comments will start at 1pm Eastern and continue until 4p.

Unless specified in the post, these Office Hours do not have a specific subject matter. So feel free to bring whatever question/feedback you want. It’s my job to make sure that gets to the right team.

As for today - I’m gonna be giving this thread the majority attention today while “in the office”. I have a relatively light day of a couple meetings and will need to take a lunch, but I will be here (in the comments) until 4p Eastern today.

Have any questions? Let us know what’s on your mind!

With the new threaded design I am having problems finding the latest posts to a topic, the issue with the forum software presenting broken links for new posts and latest posts compounds this issue. Is there any timeline for seeing a fix for these issues?

Related, finding new posts is complicated by the collapsed display of topics, is there any way we could get an expand-all option so we can spend more time helping that on trying to discover new posts?

Finding the latest replies to a topic, should be relatively easy by changing your sort order from “Oldest first” (a chronological look at the topic) to “Newest first”. Does that do the trick?

The broken links thing is new to me tbh. Could you give me an example, so I can pass that to the team?

Last week, I went to the Gainsight offices and got a first hand look at some new widgets for the front page. A few include new ways to search and new ways to display content you want to see (new topics, topics with no reply, etc). We (Sonos) are generally one of the first community’s to get access to new features on Gainsight, so those should be coming soon. In the meantime, I’m looking into giving new registered users a different homepage experience than someone who has been around for a while and is looking to skip the Sonos 101, and dig into the community’s content. More to come here.

FWIW - I hear you (and see in the Request Line) on these community platform requests. The thing is, the community platform is not a Sonos product in that it isnt something we have direct control over. I can no doubt chat with our account manager to fix whatever issues are necessary - but any new functionality would be treated as a feature request and go through that pipeline on the Gainsight Forums. It’s turtles all the way down.

Just want to provide some context here and set the best expectations. This stuff will likely take time.

No, it doesn’t. “Oldest First” and “Newest First” sorts by the date of the L1 reply. Without regard to the date/time of the nested replies within.

Will Sonos be attending the indexing error that has been causing duplicate albums in local libraries for more than a year by now? It is NOT metadata related.

There are more than a couple of tickets raised about this and that it’s still under investigation. In times like this, where we have logged cases around a particular behavior, I recommend people to call into support if they haven’t already. This way we can have an accurate view of libraries, configurations and size of impact (for prioritization). I will say that duplicate albums, is something we see from time to time and may require having a technician go over your Music Library specifically, live with you.

If you already have a ticket, feel free to share it with me via Private Message and I’ll be happy to ping the owner of that case.

Hello ! I am probably a bit late for this "Office hours" session, but I will still try…

I'm very excited about Sonos27 custom AI agents, to control my smart home. Unfortunately, in the last demo, it seemed like to use it, you had to ask first "hey sonos, connect me to ....". Will there be a more straightforward way to talk to a custom agent? For example (ideally), by defining it as default, or using custom wakewords ? Or at the very least, "hey sonos, ask ..... to ...." ?
