Hey everyone! 👋

Today we released an update to both your app and players.

iOS - 80.22.33
Android - 80.22.28
Players - 85.0-65270

This update includes a few QOL features I know some of you have been waiting for so without further ado, here is what the app introduces:

  • Improved scrolling performance in large content lists
  • A-Z Scrolling for Local Music Library
  • In app preparations for a big Ace update!

iOS improvements:

  • Mute buttons in the grouping menu
  • Tap on a product image to access the product settings!
  • Bluetooth sources device names now how in the Now Playing screen

Android improvements:

  • Recently played swimlanes will now be hidden from the home feed if you are logged out, or a guest joins the system. (Was available for iOS but is now on Android too!)

The update will be rolled out in phases, like most updates, to ensure any small bugs are caught before it reaches everyone's devices. I will update this post once I know it has been made available on all platforms to 100% of our users.

In case you missed it, our Tech Blog discussing our improved speech enhancement for Arc Ultra is now live (part 1 and 2. Part 3 will be released tomorrow.) If you want to learn more about the work that went into improving it on Arc Ultra, head over to the Tech Blog for a deep dive by our engineers!

We would love to hear what you think about these updates. Let's chat in the comments below! 👇

@Kos

You’ve not updated your app. Go to the App Store and update it.

I reinstalled it from Appstore. Still not there.

Is the app version correct now at least?

If so, then (again!) you will get it over the coming days. No amount of re-posting will make it go live on your account/device.

My system always seems to be on the tail end of the release cycle, I don't even check to see for the first week.

I have letters of the alphabet segmenting my library, but no scroll. Am I missing something?

Not sure what you mean exactly. If I bring up the ‘Artists’ screen and touch, say, the “R” letter, it scrolls immediately to the beginning of the artists listing starting with “R.”  The letters remain static but the list scrolls. This is vastly superior to having to use manual scrolling with one’s fingers or hand. Kudos to Sonos for making the letters big enough so that even my fingers can touch them. 😊

FYI, this is running on an iPhone Pro Max with IOS 18.5 with, of course, the latest version of the Sonos app. I can’t testify that it would work on anything else.

I don't have a list of letters at the top of the screen (I'm assuming that you do? ). But, in the list itself, I have each letter of the alphabet followed by the albums or artists starting with that letter. So perhaps only part of the updated UI is showing for me.

Ah. It looks like your update isn’t quite complete (as mentioned elsewhere.) This is what mine looks like after using the “J” letter. Hope it helps.

Nope. Not the correct app version. Do not know how to force it through …

Sonos app after update

Thanks for that.

So I have what you see on the left hand side, but not what's on the right hand side.

Maybe I'll do force stop on the app before my evening listenings.

@Kos

What version does it say on your app? The App Store should have the latest version, that you just installed.

Read the admin post about this update. You can have the latest app but still will not see the new feature as the feature enablement is being rolled out in a controlled manner. There is nothing you can do you speed this up.

There's more to it than the App version, Sonos can also toggle the function on and off independently of even having the latest version.

This is the iOS version. The Android version is different. On Android start to scroll the track list. A couple bubbles will appear. You can drag the right bubble.

Not for me. I assumed that would be how it works when I first checked it, but it's not there.

So what is the general consensus on the new app for base functionality so far? The update just popped up and after the last big update I'm hesitant.  Streaming now is flawless although I just lost song data and art in the current app,  no big deal atm.

When in Denmark? Still no a-z scrolling here

(Also @SilverGrey )

The article says the updates will be rolled out in phases. I believe getting an app update doesn’t necessarily mean the feature will appear immediately. This was the case for the ability to add songs to a Playlist - the app was updated, but the functionality appeared to users in stages.

Just checking - have you also run the System Update too?

Yes I did… it correctly says ‘build 85.0-65270’ for the units. However, for the app (iOS) it says ‘build 80.21.6’ and not 80.22.33…? So I guess patience is all there is :)

Finally there today🙏. With 60k tracks I really have missed the feature. Thanks.

Still nothing. 🤣

Album art seems slower to load for my library too.

I'll wait some more.

Well I guess I should have gone with my gut on this.  I updated the app and it played just fine.  I tried to take a look at the speakers and it said to sign out and back in.  OK, I can see that.  Signed out and back in,  system plays fine but when I try to get to the speakers I get the same message.

Tried it again,  same old same old.

Guess they didn't get any new programmers from the ones that house the last update.

If not reliable they certainly are predicable.

Next time I'll stick with my gut.....

@AlwaysJammin

Did you update your system too after updating the app?

@AlwaysJammin

Did you update your system too after updating the app?

That was what I was trying to do Rhonny when I hit the sign in loop.  I'm in process of working it through a different controller now that can get me to the hardware.

I had the auto update set.

All the hardware is showing 65270.

That is through a controller not with the updated app that can get to the hardware.

Well it's good now,  really slow propagation.  I guessp it had to go through the servers of 69 close partners and bounce around a few satellites. About an hour after I relogged I was able to get to the hardware from it.

Not slow propagation but a rolling release where the app stores dole out the updates over several days.

I just got my updates today so don't feel you are behind the update cycle, just that the App Store decided you got put to the end of the queue.

I'm pleased to report that I've finally got the scrolling functionality on my android. Happy days!

80.22.28 (android) Local library issues

All features mentioned in update there for me, I didn't update until a week after notification. Local library sharp in terms of loading and playing, but not so good on art.

Artwork not showing when I use 'genre' to access local library - 'album', 'artist' or 'composer' do show (denoting generically 'other'). See screenshot.

Guess this means that local library is still very much a work in progress.

Spoke to support to find if hi res/ hd banners might return for local library this morning... no confirmation of likelihood, let alone a date... as I remember this was a feature that appeared after a long period when the original 'gold' S2 appeared...

Interesting to hear how others are going... especially on slow album art generation... not as a quick as paid services, my Amazon Unlimited is virtually instantaneous.

@B33Jay

Presumably as a seasoned Sonos user you also updated the speakers’ firmware too?

And also turned everything off (router and speakers), exited the app, and then turned it all back on again and re-opened the app, to start everything from a clean, cleared cache position?

Thanks Rhonny. Have done all those, but will check NAS for update and multimedia apps on that too.
