I really like what the Pi-Hole DNS blocker offers in release notes, highlights, details and full change-logs. Just the level of detail you want to dig down to.

That’s not me. I just want a list similar to what WiiM provides.

Meh.  If we go by apps on the main mobile app stores, most companies have sparse release notes consisting of “various bug fixes” or generic “we are always working to improve” statements.  Would I like better notes?  Sure, why not.  Do I know for a fact that there are some who would go over the release notes like a paper and ink version of the Zapruder film looking for gotchas?  You bet they would (hell, we have that now without copious notes).  If it were my business, the pain in the ass of the latter would outweigh any benefit from the former all day, every day, so I understand why companies don’t published detailed release notes.

The WiiM notes pop up in the WiiM Home app after an update.  The list is a numbered list of fixes and feature improvements.  So I’m not looking elsewhere for an update list.  After seeing the feature improvements I can either use them or not.

This last Sonos software/firmware update has me wondering what was done.  Sure would like to know.

For myself, I’m here all the time so I know new features from reading posts.  As to looking in the app, if I don’t notice it in the first few minutes of using it after an update, it’s probably not something I’m going to use that much or get excited for.  So having release notes in the app isn’t really my cup of tea (in fact, any popups in the app annoy the hell out of me).  But that’s why we have chocolate and vanilla.

I could live with something like “sound curve adjustment” level of detail

So, at the risk of pulling this thread back on topic...

Has anyone any contribution relating to any actual changes that have been noticed?

Nope, maybe in a week or so when I get the new version or some time after that when the new features are unlocked for me.

Latest updates arrived 30th July here in UK.

General responsiveness continues to improve on android when accessing both streaming (Amazon) and local library. Consequently browing/searching is better.

Album art now substantially larger which is great and less blank space around screen.

Only continuing puzzlement is why my local library still does not have hd and hi-res badges...

After over two years seems the app is doing justice to the product. However must admit my system is quite modest and my wi-fi is pretty robust so it is not ever being put under any stress.

I kind of don't like how busy the preview of new UI feels, on a normal size current iPhone have to pay close attention to touch points.

Hey everybody! There’s a new Sonos App update available ...

App Update Details

iOS: 87.01.7

Android: 87.01.8

Player Update Details

Modern Players: 96.0-79160

Legacy Players: 86.8.78270

Fine...so is support for the Windows controller app being dropped?  I started having trouble with ir since the last update - it wasn’t connecting to my SONOS Five. I said it could see it on my network, it but then it couldn’t ‘find’ it. So I uninstalled and planned to reinstall. But when I went to the support page and clicked on SONOS Apps, I got the attached. What is it with this place? Or is it just with me??? [/venting]

And yes, support for both Mac and Windows ‘native’ apps have been moved to ‘maintenance’ mode, which means they’ve both been stripped of any setup functions, and aren’t receiving any new features. The mobile controllers (Android and iOS) are both fully featured, and the web app is slated to become the replacement for the ‘native’ apps, receiving full attention and all features from Sonos.

As far as I’m aware, Sonos is only releasing bug fixes to the native apps, which are fairly rare, but certainly not any new ‘features’.

Thx. That worked, and reinstalling took care of the issue I was having. Still unsure as to how I should have located that page without coming here, but it seems that being unsure has become a way of life when dealing with them… 😉 Anyway thx again!

As stated by @Airgetlam, the Windows and Mac controllers have been in maintenance mode for years.  Most setup menu options were removed way back in 2018.

The support site (various languages available) has a decent search option.

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/home

The forum search can also be helpful. The AI can be iffy and the search doesn't sort by date so you need to ignore years old results.

Fine - well understood. Still doesn’t explain why an active link on the Support page of their site should lead to a 404. But that’s just me...

Sonos has a poor process in place for vetting website updates. All we users can do is report problems (posting here is fine) to the moderators, who can only report them upstream. At some point they may be fixed so calling them out is good.

If you scroll down the support page further, you’ll see the “Download the Sonos App” section. That’s where that url came from. I was clicking on “Sonos Apps” in the “Browse by topic” section yesterday, and it was doing nothing at all. At least it’s now giving a 404 error. Progress?

Googling 'Sonos downloads' worked for me 🤷🏼‍♂️

You just need to be careful to get official Sonos downloads, the risk of malicious code is low but it exists.

Same for downloads of older Android app code that work with older Android versions, never 100% sure what you are getting.

Agreed, in this case though the top result is

(I'm in the UK...) so all good 👍

Have enabled the toggle and see the new interface. Like it so far.

Hopefully we can get some improvements in the Sonos Playlist area as editing is super cumbersome, like navigating a list with 2000+ songs. Some suggested functionality if possible;

  • Add a search capability in edit mode that allows to search for music by genre or artist to verify the contents of the playlist.
  • Something resembling dynamic lists - having genres appear in multiple lists and adding/removing tracks from the library requires a lot of manual hunting and pecking to clean things up.
  • Display track times in the queue
  • Whatever improvements to IOS app are reflected in the desktop app, the IOS screen is too small to do really big things with and the desktop app fills that gap.
  • Allow multi value string in genre tag - have been asking for this for like 10  years. :)

Thank you for your attention to this matter… :)
