Hey all! We've got a new update live for both iOS and Android β€” here's a quick breakdown of what's changed. Want the full history of what we've been up to? Check out our App Release Notes here and System (Player) Release Notes here.

As always, this is a Phased Rollout, think of it like a wave; not everyone gets it at the same time. If you're on iOS and want to nudge it along, head to the App Store, pull down on your Account page (the one showing pending updates), and give it a refresh. That usually does the trick.Β

What's New:

App Update

Android & iOS - 85.00.31

  • About Your System Refresh (iOS only) - We've given the About Your System page a makeover.
  • TuneIn Removal from Home Screen - If you have Old TuneIn shortcuts saved in your Home we are starting to remove any broken links. There will be a prompt to β€œFix It” to help you migrate links to the new TuneIn.Β
  • iOS/iPadOS 17 Support Ending - If your device is running iOS or iPadOS 17, the app will no longer receive updates on those versions. Updating to iOS/iPadOS 18 or higher will allow you to keep receiving app updates on that device.
  • Additional Grouping Option in Music Library Settings - Album Artist sorting now includes "Both" as an option, making it easier to group albums the way you'd expect.
  • Sonos Radio Ad Personalization - US listeners on Sonos Radio's free tier may see a pop-up for device-specific privacy settings. Opting in helps serve more relevant ads to your listening habits.
  • Back end changes related to messaging, content refresh, and home screen.

Player Update

  • Modern: 95.0-77060
  • Legacy: 86.7-77050

As always, feedback is welcome. The good, bad, or in between. We read it all.Β

There is still stuff missing. Β Would like to see the Associated Product & WM-xΒ ( connection type ) returned to the list. Β I know how I can see the connection type. Β Just not as convenient.

If you have an existing Sonos Playlist and attempt to save the queue as one with the same name, does it create a duplicate Playlist with different content but the same name or does it now ask you if you want to overwrite the existing one?

I actually have not tried it the way you describe it. Β What I do is save the queue as a Sonos playlist with the suffix β€œ2”. Β So Cello Concertos becomes Cello Concertos 2. Β Then I delete Cello Concertos and edit the name of Cello Concertos 2 back to Cello Concertos.

I will have to see if when you save the queue with an existing Sonos playlist name if Sonos queries you as to whether you wish to overwrite the old Sonos playlist. Β That would be the correct approach, but don’t know for sure what happens. Β I faintly recall trying that once and getting two Sonos playlists of the same name which is why I do it the way I describe in the first paragraph.

I also do playlist additions the same way with Amazon Music Unlimited & Qobuz. Β Apple Music playlist editing is broken.

I’ll save you the trouble, saving a playlist with the same name creates a second, third, fourth etc playlist with that exact name.Β

Tried an experiment with Sonos playlist creation andΒ editing within the queue. Β In the first screenshot you can see there is no list of Sonos playlists you already have so you cannot choose one to overwrite. Β Instead you have to createΒ the name of your new Sonos playlist.

Β In the second screenshot the Atmos Classical 6 on the right is the new one I added a track to. Β It ain’t 6 no more!

It's a good few releases then since Sonos removed basic checks to see if something already exists before either creating it or asking to overwrite it.

Obviously the Playlists must have an internal identifier or similar as showing users Playlists that have the same name but entirely different contents is quite unprecedented and quite baffling to me.

Don’t forget it was 2 years ago that Sonos removed altogether the ability to save the queue to a playlist. Prior to that it was always possible, and if the playlist name already existed the user was asked if they wanted to overwrite it - perfectly sensible approach. It then took 21 months for Sonos to even re-instate the current solution which allows duplicate playlist names to be created. IMHO this is a very poor implementation which has to be managed by various workarounds such as adding 1,2,3 Β or date etc to the saved playlist name, deleting the old playlist, then rename the newly saved playlist to get rid of the β€˜qualifier’. Just imagine what chaos this would cause if your Windows or Mac file system worked in the same way and allowed duplicate file names to be created!

The IOS App still has no route back to playing the currently loaded queue after playing a radio station. Can it really be that difficult, or is it just another poor design choice? Β This functionality was always available pre May 24, and still exists in the Sonos Windows App, and also 3rd party Apps. Would it be so bad to add the queue icon in the bottom left of the β€˜now playing’ screen when the radio stationΒ is no longer playing? Β Users would then have the choice of a) re-starting the radio, or b) viewing and restarting the loaded queue instead.Β

Just tried it on the Sonos orange app on an iPhone 7. Β Started a playlist then switched to TV. Β The queue was still accessible if I wanted to start playing the music again. With the old Orange app when you’re playing a radio station you also have the option to access the queue.Β Β It would be nice if the new app offered this option.

Just checked the third party app SonoPhone. Β You can access the queue after using either TV or a radio station.

@MoPacΒ What’s β€œthe old orange app”? I know the new black S2 app and the now grey S1 app, that used to be brown, but I’ve never seen an orange app.

The App icon, before the β€˜disaster’, used to be orange. It still is for some.Β  Presenting users with same named options with completely different result/content is unbelievable.

OK, the old S1 app. To me that is brown, not orange - citing colours instead of names is always difficult.

Since the apps have different names, what do you mean by β€œsame named options”? Do you mean the β€œgoing back to a queue” function that is still not restored on the after May 2024 S2 app?

Sorry, no, the icon above (orange/sand/brown) was the S2 icon before Sonos changed it to black.Β  The image above shows the two Apps co-existing on one of my devices.

By β€˜same named options’, I mean users can now have options (names) on screen for Playlists that have the same name but completely different contents.Β  I've never come across allowing such a confusing naming before.

@sjwΒ I should have seen that from the names of the app in your picture. So not only do I seem to be color blind, I should also read more closely. ;-)

I just updated my android phone to the latest sonos app version yesterday.

My phone is using the app version 85.00.31-release+20260430.8ff9f30

All my system is updated to version 95.0-77060

Β

Existing or new playlists do not display elements coming from Pocket Casts (PC) anymore.

Playlist with only PC are shown as empty, but the list icon is still made from a patchwork of the elements in it. The list can still be played, and new elements can be added to it. It’s just the display of these elements that are missing when looking at the playlist content or editing the playlist.

PC element are correctly shown in the playing list.

Elements coming from my music library are displayed as usual in playlists.

Viewing and removing items from playlists is still working with the (not sonos) linux app noson.

So clearly a regression bug in last update that was not detected before pushing to prod.

After installing this update, I can no longer delete songs from the queue on Android.Β  Any suggestions?

Airgetlam

Check that you’ve applied both the controller update, and the speaker’s firmware update. I’d then try a reboot of your Sonos devices, as well as the device you’re running the Android controller on. If none of that fixes the issue, I’dΒ call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Android 85.00 31 / 95.0.77060

All good so far, did notice after an update on my Fritzbox earlier in month lost my local library connection. Could not get libraryΒ to recognise NAS 'name'. Eventually appending the ip address instead, before the shared folder name, solved it. Β

HD / Hi-Res indicators on local library content please... sometime.
