Usb extension power cable for Roam 2?

Hi all/anyone

I have a Roam 2 with a Sonos wireless charger and plug.

Unfortunately the lead is too short so I added a 1 metre usb extension lead. All worked well but on one occasion the battery discharged overnight, so I replaced the extension lead with another and all was fine but yesterday the wireless base started flashing red so I took the usb extension out and all it all works, but I cannot put the speaker where it needs to go.

I’ve found out from the Sonos bot that I need a cable capable of delivering 5v/2a (10w) of power. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like the extension cable is causing too much voltage drop, which can definitely happen with lower-quality or thin-gauge USB extensions. I’d look for a short, high-quality USB-C extension rated for at least 3A power delivery rather than a generic USB extension cable several users have found that the Roam charger can be surprisingly sensitive to cable quality and resistance.

What length do you need? Why not simply buy a long cable?

Or buy a plug extension lead so you can plug the Roam in closer to where you need it?

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies, I agree low grade usb cables are not up to it, but what I’m after is a Male A to Female usb cable ideally one metre and 5v/2A (10w) as it for a Sonos wireless docking station. As for a mains extension lead, it’s already on one, and the situation would take too long to explain as to why I can’t extend the mains cable.

Ta very Much everyone.

One meter is almost a “standard” length. You should find a huge selection to choose from on market sites such as, say, Amazon.

Hi nik9669a,

unfortunately I have two such cables from Amazon in the “use it somewhere else bucket.” What I can’t seem to find is a usb A male to female cable that supports 5v/2a (10w) criteria. Finding a cable supporting this spec on Amazon is difficult as there is very little information. Thus a bucket of duff cables.

Take a look at cable in the link on Amazon. If it doesn’t work at least returns are easy.
