Sonos Roam 1 takes ages to switch to Bluetooth if no wifi is found

I’ve had my Sonos Roam 1 since release, when taking it on holiday it has always connected to BT easily by holding the button for a couple of seconds until the ding, then the light goes blue. I’ve just got back from holiday and found that this no longer works, I hear the ding but then it just carries on flashing white. I’ve just been testing it at home and found that it does eventually connect to BT when no wifi is found, but it took 3-4 minutes after pressing the button before the light turned blue.

Can anyone advise what to do to fix this? I has the latest firmware installed.

I spoke with the team about this and they are also in agreement that this is expected and you’d need to let the Roam fully boot up (wait for the LED go to solid white) before pairing. The Roam 2, even having a dedicated Bluetooth button, will also behave this way.

If you’re powering the Roam off, it may be better to put it to sleep mode. In sleep mode the battery can last up to ten days and should boot up faster as you’re just waking the Roam up instead of waiting for it to boot from a fully powered off state.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with your Sonos Roam.

I’m not entirely sure why Bluetooth doesn’t work if you’re not on Wi-Fi. Also, I see you mention the LED is flashing white, which shouldn’t occur during the Bluetooth pairing (only flashing and solid blue lights should be seen).

If you haven’t already, I would try rebooting your Sonos Roam by holding the power button for at least five seconds and letting the status LED power off. Once you’ve done that, power it back on and try Bluetooth pairing. If it still fails to pair, then I would recommend submitting a diagnostics and getting in touch with our support team.

Spoke to support, apparently it’s normal. When powering on away from wifi it flashes white for around 3 minutes looking for wifi, only when that is complete and the white light is solid can you switch to bluetooth. I’m certain I haven’t needed to wait that long in the past to switch to BT

Thanks for letting me know. I assumed the Roam was already powered on. Since it’s powered off, then the flashing white light makes sense.

Since a flashing white LED can mean that the Roam is booting or trying to connect to a network (and both can occur back to back), it’s hard to say what’s taking longer; the Roam booting up or the Roam trying to find a network. When the LED is solid white, does the Roam still take a long time to swap to Bluetooth, as it should only take a few seconds to swap to solid blue if you’re reconnecting to a previously paired device.

If it’s just the booting process that can take a while, then that would be normal behaviour as explained by support.

Once the light is solid white it switches to BT fine. When at home and wifi is available it boots up from off in about 30 seconds

Do you know if the Roam 2 works in the same way, or can the 2nd button cancel it searching for wifi.
