I’ve reached peak frustration with the Move 2. Decided to bring it from my home to a cottage wknd and just could not for the life of me get this thing to play music. Not even Bluetooth. I’ve factory reset and got every error msg possible. May have brought a brick to the party. Is there a specific type of wifi it needs? I tried two different networks. I understand the wifi needs to be connected for Bluetooth but why? Means I can use this damn speaker if I’m in the woods? Dear lord this had me peaking for two hours trying to get the thing to work when I tried should have just been cottage chillin. Any suggestions here are welcome. Even if they prove that I’m an idiot.
I am sure you aren't an idiot.
But if you have factory reset the.Move you will need a WiFi network to set it up again. Factory resetting Sonos is generally a bad idea. Once set up again it certainly does not need WiFi in order to play Bluetooth. (Have you pressed the button to switch to BT mode?)
Are you trying to use it standalone or add it to a different Sonos system than at it's home location?
Hey Brian thanks for the quick response. I factory reset as a last resort. Everything prior didn’t work. The cottage had a wifi I was trying to connect to as a stand-alone. The furthest I got was this msg and still didn’t connect.

So where are you at the moment? What types if network are the 2 networks you have tried? Bog standard single router or mesh?
Further question. Is there an existing system at your current location?
Unsure of the type of network as it’s an Airbnb. No existing sonos system here. Just the Move I brought here.
If you want to use Move at the Airbnb (and I assume you do) then you will have to set up the Move as a completely new Sonos system. For that you will need to factory reset it, despite what has (correctly) been said so far about resets.
To do this, you will need to be on the main WiFi, not a 'guest' network.
Can you confirm you want to go ahead with doing that before I offer further advice?
When you got to the Airbnb did you try just pressing the button on the Move to switch to BT mode?
What app are you using to play music? You are aware that the Sonos app has no part to play in playing. music via BT?
I don't really understand why you got involved with the WiFi.
On re-reading this thread, I suspect that you have gone about using your Move in another location in completely the wrong way, stemming from a mistaken belief that you needed to use WiFi and the Sonos app. Does that sound plausible?
Hey John the fact that it won’t work on a guest network makes sense. I’ve decided to use wifi over Bluetooth so that throughout the night I can use my phone without interrupting the music. I had no luck and have since returned home. Attempting to set up my Move 2 back at home under my wifi. Move 2 appears in my Sonos app but says it’s in sleep mode. Wish me luck getting it back online lol. Appreciate all the feedback.
I’ve reconnected. The issue was definitely the fact that Sonos systems won’t connect to a guest network. Thanks again, John!
Clizz,
After a Factory Reset a working WiFi connection is required in order to setup the MOVE. Once setup, you could play Bluetooth through Bluetooth capable SONOS devices. You will not be able to use a SONOS controller unless both the controlling pad/phone/computer and SONOS have access to the local network.
In the case of “Guest” WiFi the SONOS controllers will be blocked from communicating with the SONOS hardware. A relatively simple Guest WiFi workaround is to use a Travel Router. One side of the Travel Router uses the Guest Network and the other side provides WiFi for your devices. As you move from location to location, only the Guest side of the Travel Router needs an easy adjustment: Power Up ... enter the Guest WiFi credentials into the Travel Router ... done.
Moderator edit: Changed ROAM to MOVE for clarity

This is entirely correct and reasonable for your home system, but when you are elsewhere, forget it. Just use your .ove as a dumb BT speaker and play.direct from your music playing app of choice to your Movr. No reconfiguration needed either in the temporary location or when you.returm home.
