Setting up a Sonos Move 2 on a seperate system

Hey guys, I’ve owned a Sonos Move 2 for about a year now. In my house there’s a system setup for an arc home theatre, and I had my Move 2 on its own separate system (these systems are 2 separate Sonos accounts as well). I realized last month that my Move 2 no longer showed up in the app, but it still worked over Bluetooth.

I Finally set myself to fixing the setup, and did a factory reset on the move to reconnect it. However when I choose to setup a new system with it, it gets as far as having completed the WiFi connection and then fails to make a new system, causing my speaker to be lost.
Specifically, it gets to the point where the app informs me that my Move has been added to the system, and that it will likely need to be reset in order to be seen. At this point the app fails to actually make a new system, I find myself connected to the existing home theater system. when my Move 2 finishes resetting it’s just non-existent in the app, with no new system created. I’ve tried re-installing the app (and despite never joining the home theatre system, when the move fails to generate one I find myself connected to it), and i even tried using a separate wifi connection on my router, and having gone through this process a few times now, nothing seems to work. I’ve seen a few threads about people struggling to make a new system, but this seems unique from what I read. I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Working over Bluetooth means it had originally been set up, as required, on a WiFi network. Factory resetting it erased that original setup, so it would not connect via Bluetooth until such time as it had been set up again.

What I don’t understand is why you’re setting up a ‘new’ system with it, it would make more sense to me to just ‘add’ it to the existing system, by following the ‘add a device’ process. You can then put it (well, it’s a requirement) in a separate room so it doesn’t play anything in an already existent room.

If you must set it up as a ‘new’ and completely separate system, I’d be tempted to power off the existing speakers, so there’s no confusion possible. I’ve never tried this, though. Mostly because I’ve got 11 rooms on my system, with over 20 some speakers (it’s been a while since I really counted.

Conversely, you could call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

My understanding is that you can have multiple systems setup in the app. But not multiple sonos accounts. The multiple system feature is intended for different locations / networks. You can’t have multiple systems on the same network. I don’t know if that’s what you are trying to accomplish.

Why do you want the Move 2 set up as a separate system? That answer might help determine what you need to do.

Connect to multiple Sonos systems

@kdowling , I think it’s possible, as some people have both S1 and S2 systems, effectively the same as two of either…just more trouble switching between them when using the controller. In my book, not smart, but I think it works…

Yes, its possible to have both S1 and S2 systems on the same network. I have that here. The S1 system uses the S1 controller. The S2 system uses the S2 controller. You don’t switch between them using the same controller. Not really the same thing.

Edit: I can see multiple systems on the same network, but not using the same controller. You would probably need to unplug any existing sonos devices while setting up a new system. But the controller would need to be on a different device. Which is not “multiple sonos systems” using the same controller.

Heh. I don’t think, but have never tried, that there is a programmatic reason to obstruct this eventuality.

lol…that’s never happened to me. Oh, wait, plenty. I type poorly, and don’t always read and respond correctly. ;)

I did indeed lose the Bluetooth functionality after factory resetting it, it’s basically a brick now.

I did originally have my Move 2 paired into its own seperate system on my WiFi network, for some reason the system disappeared from the app, and I had lost the ability to connect to it on WiFi, thats the whole reason i went down this rabbit hole…should of just left it alone lol.

i mentioned the systems are on separate accounts because they have separate owners, the home theatre belongs to a relative. I would like to keep control of it separate, and as this was no problem in the past I have to assume a recent update messed it up. I’ll reach out to support proper though

Before support, and as above, unplugging all the other system's devices and trying the setup again might be the answer.

I think two households on the same LAN may be possible, this discourages it.

It is possible to have two S2 households, with different  accounts, running on the same LAN. I have done this myself recently (last month) without any issue but when switching between accounts in the app it pays to ensure the switch is clean.

I got into the habit of stopping the app and clearing its cache before switching accounts. It also appeared cleaner to ensure there was no active account logins on the web portal too as I perceived, correctly or not, that there seemed to be a degree of retention/cross talk between the two.

Note: I'm on Android and I was running this setup temporarily whilst selling some older speakers, not with extensive, long term, use in mind.
