roam - terrible product?

i’ve had a roam for a few years now (i have a number of other sonos products that i love) and it has been a real disappointment: constantly disconnecting; alexa stops working; battery saver stops working and will die if i don’t turn it off; sound is sometimes good, sometimes bad. I’m sure it has heard profanity more than it has heard instructions…

i’ve contacted customer support a few times, but at this point, it takes so long to go through all of the resetting and adding it back again, and then a few months later it’s doing something again. at this point i might just give up.

anyone else with their roam acting like a lemon?

No, sorry for your troubles. Both of mine are operating as expected.

I no longer use my Roam.

Roam 1 is for sure a lemon product. We had three, now only one works. Green special edition failed just outside of warranty with limited use. Support offered to “let” me buy another one. Earlier black standard Roam 1 failed a few weeks ago. Standard orange light on charger issue. Just waiting on the last one to fail. None were used anywhere harsher than a covered porch or indoors.

Do some research and you can see how wide spread of an issue failed Roam 1s are. We are a reseller and installer and we stopped recommending the Roam models.

I’m a huge Sonos fan with 32 units. I’ll admit that the Roam (gen1) wasn’t the most user friendly product.

My primary gripe was the combining the BT button and power into one. That IMO was a bad design. I suspect people (including myself) had issues with that combo button which may have lead to problems with the internal chip set (too many presses to do what one was trying to accomplish).

However, the Roam 2 corrected that design and is much easier to use and activate BT and power on/off. Therefore I can recommend the Roam 2.

That said the new Sonos Play although more expensive is worth a close look. I have two and am extremely satisfied.
