Roam SL new out of the box issues

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hello all,

I recently received a new in boxes Roam SL that I've struggled to get it working. I'm not sure which is the most critical issue that is contributing to being unusable.

Here goes:

First step plugged it in and starts to come to life with first seeing the batter light flashing then after about 15 seconds it goes out and the above the Sonos logo begins to flash.

Was able to get it added to my network and system but then needs an update which fails and produces error 1002. Btw to get it added I had to manually enter the code on the bottom of the unit since it never made a sound.

I tried multiple things like hot-spotting from a phone to a tablet with no luck.

I tried plugging it into my PC via USB and got all the way to needing an update, which also failed but different error code 888 which is low battery.  I can see all of the info for the unit on my PC such as serial number firmware number and all related info aswell as being able to see it through file explorer.

I believe the battery is shot because I can't get it to do anything itlf it isn't plugged in to something, either my PC or a 20watt charger.

I tried tech support but once I mentioned I bought it new in box from other than Sonos was told to go back to them and good luck. I didn't think this sounded right but I haven't looked into that. I really like my other Sonos products.

Any thoughts?

Does this sound like a battery is causing these other issues? Or something else?

Thanks!

Well not 100% sure exactly what I did but I got it working. This was after a bit of a setback. I tried connecting the Roam SL to a wireless charger and doing so the orange light came on for about 15 seconds then went out and all lights stayed out. It looked like a complete brick.

I then tried a 65watt USB C charger and it would do the same thing orange light on for about 15 seconds then back off. I tried pushing buttons but nothing. Then while pushing the power on for a second the off for a second and repeating that cycle I finally heard a sound. That was a first but still I didn't see any other lights or anything. I tried again and this time more sounds. I also tried unplugging the power cord and pushing the power button it finally for the first time booted!

I was able to get connected and it updated!

Charging has begun and it's on the latest firmware.

So far so good fingers crossed!

Search the community and you will see that there are many posts about Roam battery issues. Many have had their defective Roams replaced. This is what I would aim for.

Im thinking this is going to be the route. However the tech support guy tried to push me to take it up with where I got it and that was Ebay so who knows. I would assume since the tech confirmed the device had never been registered I would assume the warranty would be valid.
