I'm looking to have music in my bathroom and exploring my options. The challenge is that the electrical socket in the bathroom loses power whenever I turn off the bathroom light. 🙄

I want the music to play continuously, so it's ready the moment I step into the bathroom.
I'm considering the Roam 2 speaker since it can run on battery. My idea is to keep it plugged in all the time. This way, when the lights (and power) are on, the speaker will charge, and when the lights are off, it can continue playing music using its battery.

Does this setup make sense? Will the Roam 2 keep playing music seamlessly as the power from the socket turns off, provided it has a charged battery?

I would be grateful for any help from someone who knows his/her way around Roam 2.

Best,

V

Yes, this should work — provided that you spend enough time in the bathroom to keep the battery charged.  I am mildly concerned that, if you don’t use the bathroom often, the unit might go to sleep and require you to push the power button in order to start play. Play while exiting the Room will not be an issue.

Here are some battery charging notes.

Thank you for your help buzz!

Check the ‘other’ socket, too. Not always are both sockets controlled by the switch…and you may want to check with an electrician, it’s relatively unusual to have any bathroom sockets controlled by a light switch…at least in my experience ;)

Hey Bruce!

Unfortunately there is no ‘other’ socket (only one) 😅
I also agree it’s really weird!
I just rented the place and it’s pretty perfect… so I can’t really complain about the bathroom sockets 😀
Thank you for your suggestions!

Have a great day/night!

Two other ideas…

Keep the Roam and charger next to the bathroom, charging all the time.  When you want music in the bathroom, just bring in your Roam with you.  Unless you’re leaving the light switch on when you’re not in the bathroom, I suspect your Roam won’t get enough of a charge to stay on the network when you aren’t in the bathroom.

Replace the bulbs in your bathroom light fixture with smart bulb, and leave the switch turned on all the time..  You can then use Alexa voice assistant to turn on your bathroom light.

MOVE 2 has faster charge and longer run times on battery power. Here is the battery management note for MOVE 2. A detail that might annoy you with either unit is that music will not be playing as you enter the room and there will be a delay as the unit starts up if it is currently in standby.

This is not my mode of operation, but I think that MOVE 2 will be a little more docile in this mode.
