I have an issue with my Move 2 when listening to audio from my Apple TV 4K. The issue is a loud pop or click sound that occurs randomly and inconsistently. I was originally told by Sonos technical support to restart my Move 2 which helps for awhile. This issue is getting worse requiring more Move 2 restarts. I was later told by Sonos Technical support that playing audio from Apple TV is not supported on Move 2. Is this indeed the case?
The Move doesn’t have any idea where the Bluetooth signal is coming from.
That being said, the Move isn’t designed by Sonos to be used as a TV speaker. Sonos has the Ray, the Beam, and the Arc Ultra which are all designed to be connected via a low latency connection to your TV.
For better or worse, Sonos has zero control over potential latency of a Bluetooth signal, which can cause substantial issues with video lipsync, so they don’t recommend any Bluetooth connection with video devices. There is also the complication that Bluetooth, as currently implemented, has at best a stereo signal, and doesn’t have the bandwidth necessary for a full Dolby Digital, or Atmos signal.
In general, you should be able to connect your Sonos Move to any generated Bluetooth signal, assuming it’s of the correct type. However, you may have disruptions from the Apple side, particularly if it’s trying, in software, to compress a full surround signal into a single ‘stereo’ stream.
Your current use case is neither supported by Sonos, nor frankly recommended. You might try setting the output in the Apple TV’s settings to stereo only, if you already haven’t, but your Sonos will only play what it is handed. If there is an interruption (even via interference), Sonos can’t deal with that.
