Since I had issues with my Move 2 and getting “access denied” when trying to play to my Move2 from music on my external hard drive attached to my router, I decided to get a state of the art router - Netgear RAXE500 and rebuild the network. Setup went well, all Sonos devices connected without any real issues. Loaded music on the external hard drive connected to the router, created the shared folder all seamlessly. Here is where the app fails. I can create a “favorite” from a specific folder on my shared drive, the app names it from that folder and I cannot change the name, I can’t add to that favorite from a different folder. To bypass that I figured I will create a playlist with all my folders and just make a “favorite” from that. Wrong… the app doesn’t let me create a playlist. My workaround was using my computer. Not only on the computer could I rename a favorite if I wanted, I was able to build my playlist, name the playlist and then send it as a favorite from there. Could NOT do that on the app. Brand new network, brand new router and I can play those songs on a playbar, a port, and a move 1, but get the “access denied” error on the Move 2. Can I exchange my Move 2 for another Move 1?

I’m not aware that you can ‘swap’ any speakers for other speakers. It sounds like there is an issue with your Move 2 communicating with the location where your music is stored, at least, oddly enough, from the app/controller on your Mobile device (iOS? Android?), but is working from your computer (Mac? PC?).

Have you called Sonos Support directly to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Thanks for the response, but the problem is not with the Move 2 communicating as the music shows up and when I press the play button it visually acts like it is starting to play, but then it stops and I get the message “access denied”. All other Sonos devices play fine from my favorites that is linked to the external drive on the router. I can play on the Move 2 if I play on the Move 1 and then group the Move 2 but that’s just a band-aid fix. As far as the Android vs. computer, there are issues where I can’t make a play list on the phone app, cannot add to or change an existing favorites from the phone app. and cannot make a favorite from a playlist on the phone app. All of those can be done from the computer application.

There have been ongoing issues with SONOS Playlist management using phone/pad controllers. SONOS has been working on this and the latest update has been an improvement. I continue to use the PC controller.

You should sub a diagnostic after one of these failures, then contact SONOS phone support. I don’t recall any previous reports of this specific issue. The report will trigger a review.
