I got mine as open box devices at Best Buy…but I don’t recall getting an option to choose gen 1 or gen 2. At the time, Best Buy was only selling gen 2.

For what it’s worth, I’d be pretty careful about where you purchase. Especially older equipment. Make sure there is a return policy available. I’ve seen my fair share of posts from those who have been ‘scammed’. It might be important to know if the ‘upgrade’ has been consumed, but you do have to rely on the seller’s word, until you have the opportunity to add the device to your system.
