‘Sonos’ upgrade cycle is getting out of hand. I’ve got the Arc, Sub (Gen 3), and Move, but now they’re pushing the Move 2 with no ability to stereo pair it with the original Move? That’s disappointing. And the 15% trade-up discount feels more like an excuse to get us to spend thousands on a ‘whole new system’ every year. What’s next, a system with ‘12.9 surround sound’ and another upgrade push in 12 months? Sonos should focus on better compatibility and seamless integration across their products, not making loyal customers feel like their gear is obsolete. We invested in their ecosystem; it’s only fair they support it properly.

FYI you can use the iOS app Sonosequencer to create stereo pairs of speakers that Sonos won’t let you with their app like move and move 2.

You can Group them where the sonic match isn't as important as when Paired.
That Sonos keeps making improvements is also good, yes it does make folks choose an earlier version for compatibility with Pairing or the latest version.

That’s not strictly true otherwise the Play:5 (Gen2) and Five could be stereo paired as they are sonically identical.
I once read, potentially from the CEO but can’t recall exactly, aesthetics also plays a factor. Sonos didn’t believe anyone would want to stereo pair a Play:1 and a One for instance due to their different outer appearance. The same could be said for the Play:5 (Gen2) and Five, more so for the white version.

They never said that. They are talking about the upgrade program, not updates.
Sonos Move was released September 2019. The Move 2 was released in September 2023, 4 years later, and it was made clear at the time of release that the two models could not be stereo paired. I don’t see how this could be viewed as Sonos not given consumers enough time to purchase a stereo pair with the original Move.
And to be clear, the original Move is still fully supported, even though Sonos does not produce or directly sell the speakers. You can pretty easily find used and sometimes even new Sonos Moves out there on the market.
