Sonos 27.1 Is Here: Your Queue Now Survives Radio and TV

Related content:Software

Hi everybody! We have a new Sonos app update, and it fixes a personal annoyance of mine: your queue now sticks around when you switch to radio or TV, so you can pick up right where you left off. We've also added search autocomplete, brought a few favorite iOS gestures to Android, and made system updates more visible in settings. The full list of changes is in our App release notes and Player release notes.

This update is rolling out in phases, so it may not be available to everyone right away. If you don't see it yet, check back a little later. It's on the way.

App Update Details
iOS - 90.00.47
Android - 90.00.43

Player Update Details
Modern Players - 97.2-81220
Legacy Players - 86.10-81100

New in this update:

  • Inactive queue - Your queue stays intact while you listen to radio or watch TV, so you can resume where you left off.
  • Search autocomplete - Suggestions appear as you type, so you find your music faster.
  • Clearer system updates - Improved system update visibility in settings.
  • Virtual Volume Knob - Control the volume of your current room or group with a two-finger tap-and-rotate gesture on any screen. (Now on Android)
  • Delete Recently Played - Remove individual items from Recently Played. (Now on Android)
  • Swipe-based queue actions - Swipe right while browsing to add items to your queue. (Now on Android)

Players also get bug fixes and performance improvements.

We'd love to hear how it's working for you. Let us know!

I’m glad the queue is available again in the sonos controller after radio or TV, rather than needing to use a third party app. But it’s hard to get excited about a broken feature finally getting fixed.

The new updates page is nice.

And the rest around local library search/index...

Glad to see the ability to revert to the loaded queue after listening to the radio or TV has finally been re-instated. This is a major improvement to how I use the system.

I think my only outstanding gripe remaining is the way that saving the queue to a playlist is implemented - I still don’t like the way it allows a playlist to be saved with the same name as one that already exists. I would much prefer the previous functionality (and standard file management behaviour). where you would get a warning to say ‘playlist already exists, do you want to overwrite it?’.  You can then have the choice to overwrite it (eg if you have made a few changes but do want to save it back to the original name), or choose to save it with a new name.  Perhaps this will arrive one day?

That makes a lot of sense. I’ll bring this back to the team - thanks!

Great news. The return of regular updates is welcome, yes some may be a return of old functions but there’s a really encouraging dynamic from Sonos, stand outs being the portable as surrounds and the new volume gesture.
Thank you.

Thank the gods this is back. Such a frustrating experience over the last 2.5 years where 3rd party apps could do this but the official app couldn’t.

Ok, I have an issue with this. I’ve resetted my app to try and setup my system, now the Sonos App is still on the previous version (27.0). The Google Play Store shows only that version (27.0, 89.01.11-release-20260917.7f4c363) in the App Store, but when I open the App, and try to add a Speaker, I only get the Message “App update required” - “To add new products, download the latest version of the Sonos App”.

If you do staggered or phased updates, DON’T CHECK THE LATEST VERSION ON STARTUP. As far as I can see, there is no way for me to get the actual latest version at the moment. I don’t know if that’s an issue of Sonos or Google Play Store, and I don’t really care, this is not a good experience. Actually, it’s not an experience at all.

Any tips or tricks to get the latest (27.1) version, or to disable the version check? Or an estimate how long I have to wait for the latest version to show up in the play store?

No speedup option for Android, up to two weeks delay.

Glad they finally brought the queue back, because having to rebuild it after switching to TV or radio was a pain. The new Android gestures are a nice addition too. I just hope they keep working through the older bugs instead of leaving them around for months. The local library search still needs attention, and playlist management could use some work. The phased rollout is a bit frustrating when the app asks you to update but the Play Store hasn't got the update yet. Still, it's good to see Sonos making progress on the app.

Landed (for me) in UK overnight... As others have said very welcome seeing queue retention has returned but no queue position retention that I can see?

Unless I have missed something obvious it would be nice to see that turn too.

Not a lot of help to you but I am still able to move tracks in a local library queue by selecting the 3 bars on RHS and dragging?

That's good to know... oddly local library won't do it either... will log it if it persists after next update.

Cheers

Every release lately seems to fix something and break something else. 😕
