Contact Sonos Sales dept. and ask them if they will honour the difference.

It would be the first time I see that, not in Sonos, but in my life! 😅

I have a rule when I buy something expensive… never look prices again!

Anyway, try asking Sonos, because if you have 30 days of free returning period, perhaps they prefer to give some money back rather than pay the transport costs twice. 

But you’ve to understand that offers happens, and we cannot complain, just take the opportunity! 

If not, return it if you have a 30-day returns window, and buy again at the lower price.

Amazon used to do it automatically, if it was them lowering the price.  Hasn’t been that way in a while and I’m pretty sure they make you do the “return and rebuy” dance now.  But many brick and mortar retail stores will price match or give a refund if the price goes down; Best Buy, WIlliams Sonoma, and Kohls are three that I’ve done it with.

If the stores don't offer price matching folks tend to wait for a sale. With it they will often buy early knowing the match will get them the good price.

Offering free returns but no price match has them ending up with a lot of "open box" discounts to eat. Lots of wasted effort compared to a rebate on the price too.

Pure speculation on my part, but I think that, in advance, SONOS determines an average selling price that supports the business then inflates this for the advertised price. They’ll sell a certain number at the advertised price, but regularly they’ll promote a “sale” at the average selling price. The “sale” brings in customers who never buy anything unless it’s on sale and allows SONOS to generate a spike in sales that can even out their cash flow.

That’s case with any manufacturer who also sells the product direct to consumer. There’s a manufacturing cost which also incudes logistics, wholesale to re-seller price and a Floor price to consumer's. In this case Sonos as the manufacturer/seller will match the Floor price. However, there is a cushion between the Wholesale and Floor price to allow for special sales. In that manner there is always a profit and not a loss. Sometimes products will be sold at wholesale to clear inventory for a new product.
