Why doesn’t my TV work when SONOS is having problems?

I have 2 Sonos home theater systems and a stereo pair and ALL are down right now, even the ones with a direct HDMI connection to my TV.  Sonos is apparently having issues because the icons for streaming services keep disappearing and won’t stream (gives “Internet down” message, despite my Speedtest showing a solid 1GB connection to all test servers..).

Why can’t I play audio locally when Sonos is down?  Is this like that BMW “Pay a monthly subscription for heated seats” deals where SONOS can just brick my system if they decide to shut down?

I’m going to throw all of my SONOS gear out the window, this is ridiculous.
