Hi, I hope everyone is doing well.  I am enjoying my new Sonos home theater system   I have a Samsung flatscreen connected to my Apple TV. I have the HDMI going directly to the Samsung.  Is this the best way to set it up?  Or should I be connected directly to the Apple TV?
I’ve noticed that most of the sound coming is Dolby digital

Thank you for your reply

Being a little pedantic, the HDMI goes to the Ultra since it’s primarily an input to the Ultra (other than the occasional signal going the other way). But yes: if the tv is passing through the appropriate signals and formats, all should be good. If you’re expecting or wanting Atmos you need to give us tv model details to see if it can support that.

thank you for your reply. This is the LG that I have.

The Arc expects a (e)ARC signal, that an Apple TV will not provide. All signals need to go through the TV.

Just to be clear your connections/settings should be:

  • Arc Ultra > TV HDMI eArc port
  • TV audio set to pass-thru
  • LG CEC turned on
  • AppleTV > available HDMI Arc port
  • AppleTV audio set to “Auto”

Those are the connectons/settings for my LG’s and AppleTV boxes. Whatever the audio contect via AppleTV is sent as encoded (Stereo, DD5.1 Dolby Atmos) to Arc Ultra.
