My Samsung Frame TV is connected to my Sonos Beam (Gen 1) via an HDMI-ARC connection in the Samsung OneConnect box. I subscribe to a variety of streaming services (Netflix, Prime, ...). All my Sonos audio sources, and all the streaming services play at a normal volume. However, when I am watching live TV, max volume is about 20% of the other sources. When I look at the volume slider through the Sonos app, when TV is playing, the slider is at 100 and barely audible (whereas with my other sources, the slider is rarely above 30%). How do I boost the TV volume?
Sounds like you need to adjust the TV sound settings for consistency. When you go to Settings - Sound - Expert Settings, what are your current audio settings shown there (e.g. Digital Audio Format)?
And also, how do you receive live TV - through a separate cable box or the TV’s built-in tuner?
Sorry, the term “live TV” may imply to you “over-the-air” TV -- in fact, it is Bell Fibe (akin to cable TV, only through fibre). The HDMI cable from the Bell box is connected to the HDMI-1 input on the OneConnect box, and appears on the home screen as one of the sources (along with apps like Netflix and Prime). As it was the only source with depressed volume (i.e., the other apps do not have to played at max to be heard!), I concluded that the issue had something to do with the Bell service -- and it turns out I was right. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the output of the Bell box can be adjusted (from the menu on the home screen, the box’s output volume can be raised in settings). My problem has been resolved; however, thank YOU for offering to help!
Glad it’s sorted. The reason for asking if it was a box or not was I was wondering whether you should be selecting Pass-through as your Audio Format in the Samsung sound settings. When you plug devices into the TV’s HDMI, you should select Pass-through so that the TV doesn’t process any of the sound but instead passes it through to the Sonos Arc so the Arc plays sound as it is meant to, at the right level. The TV can process audio formats poorly so Pass-through should always be selected if you have a Samsung TV, a Sonos soundbar, and a device plugged into the TV. (Your Bell box may not have needed its volume raising.)
Thank you, @Rhonny. Makes sense. I thought I had tried that, but perhaps didn't test it as methodically as I should have. (And the output from the box may have been lower than it should have been anyway -- even if it had "passed through" to the Sonos soundbar untouched.) I'll give it a try out of curiosity. (To answer your question directly, it had been set on "Auto" vs "PCM" or "Pass-Through".)
