TruePlay not working with ARC + MiniSub + Era100 combination

Here are some Trueplay considerations. Note that Android is not supported.

So its like … I just purchased an very expensive new car and then find out that I can’t roll down the windows.  After a half day of research, on customer service waiting line for 40 mins, and doing all the hacks I could find, then Buzz (aka, someone who works at Sonos) tells me because I am wearing a T-shirt and not a black turtle neck that the windows won’t work.  
 

By not stating “THIS PRODUCT IS ONLY FULLY SUPPORTED BY iOS” on the box and on marketing publications is misleading consumers and false advertising.  I can’t return these, so stuck with a lame-duck sound system.  ARGH !!!

Just found this on ChatGPT.  After 5+ hours of work on my part going through the painful Sonos customer service, AI did a better job answering the question than Sonos in 30 seconds.

Quick Tuning using an Android device is only available in a home theatre setup with an Arc Ultra.

It is widely publicised that Trueplay is not fully supported on Android.

How about this ?  I went ahead and updated the Sonos User Guide provided with the speakers to say “PLEASE NOTE:  The TruePlay feature in the Sonos app is not available for Android, only iOS.  If you would like to use the TruePlay feature you may purchase or borrow an iPhone or iPad to enable this feature.”  Image attached.  Sonos could easily make this small change in their next print run.  This solution would really save so many people a lot of time, effort and confusion while they pursue their quest to enjoy Sonos and “Feel The Magic Of Sound”, which is why we purchased Sonos in the first place.   We all love and are passionate about music and sound.  I hope this solution helps others enjoy their music easier.  👍

The support article that Buzz linked has the relevant information regarding Trueplay compatible devices, and which also links to our Quick Tuning article. Advanced Tuning requires an iOS device, but Quick Tuning and Automatic Trueplay can be used with Android.

Thank you so much for jumping in to help!   So, Automatic Trueplay can be used with Android ? I went through the steps as listed in the article referenced which are shown below.

Enable or disable auto Trueplay

1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
2. Go to the   Settings menu.
3. Under My System, select your portable Sonos product.
4. Under Sound, select Trueplay, then toggle Auto Trueplay tuning on or off.

Steps 1 through 3 work, but for Step 4, there is no “Trueplay” selector under “Sound”, thus can’t activate Auto Trueplay.  Please see attached screen shot.  For the 5 possible menu selections under “Sound” there is also no “Trueplay” listed in sub menus.  For the speakers, all the manual switches are in the ON position for the microphones.

Is there another solution to get Auto Trueplay to work ?  Would really love to get Sonos working.

The articles I linked have the information, but I should have been more clear in my post, apologies. 

Automatic Trueplay is only enabled on our portable speakers, so you wont be able to use that in your setup. I only mentioned it as a type of Trueplay which is available on Android. 

Quick Tuning does work on the Era 300s but, as Mr T mentioned, only when they’re connected to an Arc Ultra as surrounds and not the Sonos Arc. This is because the speakers in the Home Theater setup act as one unit when paired and the Arc, which doesn’t support Quick Tuning, is acting as the main component.

Your only way to Trueplay this setup has already been mentioned, which is to borrow an iOS device to complete Trueplay tuning, and you’ll only have to Trueplay tune them again if you move them.

While Trueplay does help with tuning the speakers to your environment and alleviates bad speaker placement, it’s not necessary for you to use the speaker. I use Android myself and haven’t used Trueplay on any devices in my system and think it sounds great.

I’m not sure if it would be possible to select specific devices in stereo pairs and home theater configurations to use quick tuning, but I can also forward this thread to our team as a feature request for their consideration.
