I currently have a Beam (gen1).
If I buy 2 sonos one SL will they work as surround speakers?

Yes, but that’s only if you are running the Beam within the S2 Sonos App - new ‘One SL’ speakers are S2 only and often used as surrounds with Beam (gen1) when it’s setup on S2.
