Hi everyone,

I was looking for a related issue here but couldn’t find anything.

I recently purchased a Sonos Beam Gen. 2 and a Sonos Sub Mini, which I wanted to connect to my TV.

After setting up the Beam Gen. 2, I added the Sub Mini, and everything worked perfectly fine in terms of sound quality. I received a deep, very rich bass and was super impressed.

However, after unplugging the Sub to do some cable management and then reconnecting it, the Sub failed to deliver the strong bass it had just 10 minutes earlier. I could barely notice a difference in sound whether the Sub was on or off when playing music through the Beam. I tested with Techno and Rock via Spotify over WiFi, so there should have been plenty of bass. Additionally, I tried it with my PS5 and the actual TV, which is connected to the Beam via eARC.

The Sub is technically working, as I can hear a very faint bass if I put my ear right next to it.

My Sub Mini is positioned in the corner of a 20 sqm room, with about 20 cm of space from each wall and the Sub’s opening facing the room. I’ve tried repositioning it, but it didn’t improve the situation.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Checked the Sub settings in the app. I hadn’t changed anything, but I reset the settings just to be sure.
  2. Verified that the Sub and Beam both had solid white lights.
  3. Confirmed both devices were connected to the router by checking the list of connected devices.
  4. Performed a hard reset on both the Beam and the Sub to start fresh. Unfortunately, the issue persisted.

Later that evening, I tested the Sub by connecting it to one of my Sonos One speakers. As soon as it connected, I got a rich, deep bass, almost like a confirmation sound. However, when I tried reconnecting the Sub to the Beam, that rich, deep bass was missing.

Could this be a firmware problem? I’m convinced that the hardware of both the Sub and the Beam is working fine, but it seems like there’s some sort of compatibility or communication issue between them.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Often things get a bit confused with the current software.

Try powering down the Bean and your Sub. Power up the Beam and once it is booted the Sub.
