Sonos surround and network cables

Question

Hi,

I am new to the community however not new tot Sonos. This week I have set up my Sonos player and a Sonos connect amp als a surround system and it works. However if I remove the network cables the surround cables stop.

Is there a way to get the system up and running without the networkcable?
Am I correct to think that my subwoofer out, that worked fine when not in a surround set up, is disabled once I have set up the surround modus on the connect amp?
I am thinking about getting 2 play one speakers to replace the connect amp and speakers in the surround, Will they both need network cables?

3. If you used Play:1s for surrounds, they would not need to be wired.
