Sonos Ray TV Setup

Hi everyone, I’m having trouble getting my Sonos Ray to detect the optical signal from my Samsung TV and I’m hoping someone might have seen this before.

TV model: Samsung UA65HU8500
Soundbar: Sonos Ray
Connection: Optical (TOSLINK)

What’s happening

During TV setup in the Sonos app, I keep getting the message “No signal detected.”
The TV speakers turn off when I select Audio Out, so the TV is definitely switching to external audio.

What I’ve already tried

• TV Sound Output set to Audio Out
• Digital Audio Output Format set to PCM
• TV speakers mute correctly when Audio Out is selected
• Optical cable fully seated on both ends
• Tried all four orientations of the optical plug on the Ray
• Ray’s optical port glows red
• The optical cable tip shows red light when unplugged from the Ray, so the TV is sending signal
• Ray is online in the Sonos app and works for streaming
• Repeated setup multiple times, including skipping the step and retrying

The issue

Even though the TV is sending optical signal (confirmed by the red light at the cable tip), the Ray still shows “No signal detected.”

It seems like the Ray’s optical receiver isn’t picking up the incoming signal.

Has anyone experienced this with the Ray before, or is this likely a hardware issue with the optical input?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you need to select “optical out” on the tv settings? It might default to hdmi rather than optical.
