Question

Sonos Arc Ultra placement

We're building a new media wall unit, and am planning to buy an Arc Ultra for below the TV.

Have I got enough space around the speaker for it to work, or am I going to have limited side firing speaker benefits if going into the side of a unit.

Am I also better trying to have more space above the speaker between it and the TV also

Use this as your guide. The full writeup can be found here.

In addition to the above I’d be skeptical of a recess more than 5 inches deep. JMHO.

Keep ends 1” away from wall or obstructions? That can’t be right? Should be 12”, typo in instructions?

Always a trade off look better or sound better. I would personally have the sound bar on the shelf/cabinet top, and move as far forward as possible. Lower the TV. The 4” can be a lot less if the soundbar is not obstructed above, ie is in front of the TV.

Once those shelves are full with nice stuff, the soundbar just will blend in. Get a removeable access panel in the cabinet, so you can get access to cables etc, if you change your mind.

Is there a typo in the instructions to wall mount an Arc Ultra as indicated by @craigski? If so (or not) we would appreciate a clarification. Thanks!

Did you take a look at https://uk.kef.com/blogs/news/calculate-the-ideal-tv-height to see if your TV might not be place too high?

Ken_Griffiths

FWIW, the attached is from the official Sonos User Guide for the ‘similar’ Sonos Arc soundbar - Admittedly, I've personally always thought the same 30cm/1-foot distance, on either side, applies to the Arc Ultra.

I strongly suspect it’s a typo in the Arc Ultra online user guide. The 1’ (foot) has likely been incorrectly interpreted as 1” (inch) - that’s my guess here.

They make an extensible mounts for the Arc that will let you push it back when not in use and pull it forward when in use.

My assumption is that a typo would not be correct in two metric systems - 1” is 2.5cm, after all.

It does seem rather close, though - I’d give much more space at the sides.

I hope this helps.

Its a typo, 1” is ridiculous. Its minimum 12”/30cm, same as Arc, as per @Ken_Griffiths

edit: as per here:

Seems it’s a typo first, that then got converted. Thanks everyone for flagging!

Edit: I guess it was too early in the morning for critical thought 😅
