Sonos Arc Ultra connection

I have an Arc Ultra connected to Tv Arc port. Works fine. In theory, I figure running an HDMI cable from the audio out of an Oppo bluray player directly to the Ultra should play audio but it does not. If I run it to an HDMI input on a A/V receiver, it does work. Why not on the Ultra?

Because the Sonos is looking for audio coming in on the ARC pins on your HDMI cable, not the standard audio pins. And that signal is created by the CEC ‘computer’ in the TV, and not by the source devices.

My previous Sonos Beam 2 had an adapter to run the TV optical audio to the HDMI port. Is there such an adapter to get a blu ray players HDMI audio to also work?

You should be able to reuse that adaptor.

Yes, but they are rather expensive.
