Hello,

We currently have an Arc SL, a sub (gen2), and 2-era 300’s.

We recently purchased a Panasonic Dp-UB820 blue ray player.  We also have a Samsung 7 series tv with an e-arc hdmi port.

When playing Atmos movies, everything is fine.  However, playing anything else, the disk menu shows up as Dolby Digital 5.1.  As soon as the movie starts, the app switches to Stereo PCM and the sound changes.

I’ve read so many forums,  I’ve updated cables, powered down components, and set everything I could set.  I have the Tv set to:

Sound Output-Receiver (hdmi-eARC), under Expert Settings,  I have HDMI-eARC mode set to Auto, Digital output set to pass-through and Dolby Atmos compatibility turned on.

On the Panasonic, I have the following:

HDMI-video+video output mode (nothing else is hooked up to the player).
I have tried toggling the digital audio outputs on dts/dts-hd to pcm or bitstream with no change

Dolby audio is set to bitstream though I’ve tried toggling options here as well.

secondary audio is set to off

Can anyone give me a clear answer to what is going on here?

Perhaps see if this earlier thread/discussion might assist you…

Same issues,  whenever I play a non-Atmos movie, the app shows Dolby Digital 5.1.  After I start the movie, it changes to Stereo PCM no matter what I do.

The Arc SL will only play the audio format that’s sent to it by the source device, or TV - maybe check your settings are as per @GuitarSuperstar’s in the thread I linked - that user appears to have things working.
You might find you have to power everything off/on again once you’re settings are correct to get the HDMI handshake setup correctly, so maybe consider giving that a try too.

I have tried everything including this string and it isn’t working.  Including powering components off/on once I change something.

@Peaceofmind105,

Dunno then, if you’ve tried the various settings mentioned - it is more likely down to the Panasonic or Samsung devices though, I suspect. Particularly if other sources/Apps are perhaps working for you with the soundbar.

Switching to Stereo PCM happens if a TV cannot handle a format like DTS. Samsung and LG’s indeed cannot handle DTS. What are the sound settings for DTS on your BD-player?

I just found out through a little more research that my tv is the issue.  I doesn’t support LCPM. I’ll need a switch to conduit between the 2 or purchase a different TV.  Thank you for the reply though, it means a lot!
