Renovating and planning to use this room on the top floor as home theatre.

The sofa has to be located where it is. There is no moving it!

I was going to place two ERA 100s (maybe 300s, but I think 100s better suited for room size here) on stands at both ends of the sofa for surround (wall in front has tv, Arc and sub4). But this poses two challenges:

  1. The room isn't big and I would rather leave the sofa attached to the back wall - which means the ERAs on stand would be in line with the sofa, rather than a few inches behind it. I understand this is not optimal. Is it still a better option than not having them at all.
  2. As shown on the rendering, on the left of the sofa I have this very low, slanted ceiling which doesn't really give me much room for a stand. There is a console table on that side. Would it be stupid to be one of the 100s low on that console, and the other one on a stand on the right??

Where would you put surrounds?

Also, the room is small. About 12x10 ft. See floor plan below. Do you think the 300s are too much here (vs 100s)?

You might consider mounting Era 100’s on the wall at about 5-6 feet above the sofa. Era 300’s IMO would not have the required space to properly reflect the sound. Era 100’s are front-firing and therefore would project the sound better.

As you are renovating the room you could set up the Era 100’s and Arc before finishing the walls to decide if the sound is satisfactory with or without them. If not return them within the Sonos or retailer return window assuming you’d have no further need of them.

Thx for the suggestion. It’s a placement I hadn’t thought about. Do you think that would be materially better than putting the 100s on stands right behind the sofa? The base of the sonos stand seems designed to slide almost right under the sofa - so that would be an option too I think. I’m asking as it would be much simpler (and more symmetrical!) than wall mounting where suggested..

Placing Era 100’s on stands is an option. However, the Era 100 next to the ceiling-slant might be directly behind a viewer's head. Of course, that’s depending upon the height of the stand in relationship to the ceiling-slant.
