Hello,

My Sky remote doesn’t work anymore with my Sonos. My TV remote still works though. Tried setting up in the app but it says ‘’ we didn’t detect a signal from your remote ‘’. My Sky remote works ok with everything else just not my sound?

Try rebooting the soundbar then redo the Remote Control Setup in the app.

Edit: If that fails, you can also try completing remote setup within Sky Q menu. Go to Settings > Setup > Remote Control > Sky Q remote > Control a speaker system

What Sonos device are you trying to control? The Sonos Ray requires an IR input from the remote, as do any other device connected to the TV via optical cables. But if they’re connected via HDMI-ARC, the volume is carried from the TV set itself, so the remote needs to connect to the TV set, and not the Sonos.

I have a Playbar, rear Play Ones and a Mini Sub.

I’ve been away for a quite a few weeks recovering from a knee operation and everything worked fine before I left but came home and my Sky remote won’t control the sound. The gremlins must have been in my house when I was away.

A PLAYBAR requires an optical connection, much like the Sonos Ray does. This means no CEC commands can be sent by the TV to the PLAYBAR, so indeed your remote connects directly to the PLAYBAR.

It’s possible that an update to your Sky system ‘turned off’ the IR portion of the remote, you may want to go through the process again to ensure it is turned on. This kind of thing has happened before with TV updates ‘resetting’ their remote, although I don’t recall it occurring with a Sky remote, but it certainly is a possibility. I’d likely also have someone more mobile ensure the IR sensor on the PLAYBAR hasn’t been obstructed. Some folks have, in the past, accidentally done this, while someone is ‘cleaning’.

Finally, if you think there’s been a failure in the PLAYBAR itself, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Check here for IR sensor locations to make sure that the IR sensor is not blocked.

@jjbell7 - You can reset the Sky Q remote IR mode by simultaneously press and holding buttons 4 & 6.

The remote led will quickly blink red four times. The previous IR codes used by the remote will be retained by this process, as will its pairing with the Sky Q box.

Thanks to the community. Problem now solved.

When I was away there was a power outage which caused my Sky box to freeze and no longer record programmes on series link.

My remote wasn’t turning on my box so I tried resetting the remote by pressing 4 and 6 which I didn’t know also turned off the IR and was set up to use only RF. So all I had to do was press 4 and 6 again to turn on IR.

Many thanks.
