I have a 2024 Hisense U7 series TV and a Sonos Arc with Two Play ones as surrounds and a bonus sub.
The arc is connected to TV via HDMI earc port.
When I have the Digital Audio Output set to Passthrough and watch shows on Netflix, I get Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus badges to show in the Sonos app.  But when I use Peacock it say Stereo PCM in the app.  But if I change the TV setting from Passthrough to Dolby Digital, then when watching Peacock it show a Dobly Digital badge and does indeed sound better.  But then in Netflix I no longer see the Atmos badge.
So I am super confused as to what setting to put the Digital Output to.  If I put it on Auto, then when watching Peacock, the Sonos app shows Dolby Multichannel PCM 2.0.
Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1 for shows that was showing Dolby Digital Plus.  Dolby Atmos still seems to work correctly in this setting
So really confused what setting I should put it on.

Is there a difference between Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1

  1. Sonos plays whatever it is handed.
  2. My recommendation would be for ‘Passthrough’ on the TV’s audio settings, then you can adjust the various sources to ensure they’re presenting the correct ‘form’ of audio to the TV, so it can pass it through. Most devices work via CEC, with the TV as hub, which recognizes  the formats that the Sonos can play, and passes that to the various sources via CEC. In this way, it is a better format than optical, which relies only on the source. Given HDMI-ARC’s (via CEC) ability to pass information two ways, it often isn’t an issue.
  3. For format difference questions, I’d suggest Wikipedia as a relatively good data source.

Spent hours reading through various threads.  It seems it’s a bug with the Peacock app itself.  Many have reported they can’t get Dolby Atmos to work when using peacock via the built in google app.  I believe this is what I am experiencing as I am only having problems with Peacock.

It indeed is the native peacock app on my Hisense TV.  I purchased a Roku Ultra, and now everything works as expected.  I now get Dolby Atmos badge in Peacock, Netflix, Prime, with Passthrough set on my TV.  In all apps for shows that are in 5.1, I get a dolby multichannel PCM 5.1 badge in Sonos.  Was expecting to see Dolby Digital Plus, but the Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1 sounds good to my ears.  Still not sure if Dolby Digital Plus is better as I have read confilcting opinions online.  But I am happy now.  The Dolby Atmos sounds GREAT!
