I'm planning to hang my rear speakers Sonos sl one on the wall, approximately 3 feet away from the sofa. Is this distance suitable for achieving optimal sound quality, and is it advisable to mount them high on the wall for better surround sound experience? Any recommendations on the ideal placement for optimal audio enjoyment would be appreciated!"

At ear level seems to be the general recommendation. If practicality or aesthetics is an issue, “not too high” would be a good guideline.
At present mine are on the floor, with the volume turned up to compensate for a less-than-ideal location ☹️
