I am having a lot of inconsistencies with utilizing dobly atmos on my PS5. I have my Samsung TV set up with the PS5 connected to HDMI, arc soundbar connected to TV via eARC, and audio settings on the TV set to “pass through” (has PCM, auto, and pass through settings). On my PS5 it is updated and I have the audio settings as such: HDMI device AV amplifier - Channel 7.1 - audio priority Dolby Atmos.

I have the Era 300s set up in a square room (high vaulted ceiling) approximately 6-10’ from listening position on sonos brand stands. They are facing the TV which sits on a cabinet only entertainment center with the ARC sitting in front. I have trueplay tuned the room both on the sonos app and with the PS5 controller through PS5 settings.

When I look at my sonos app the only time I can get Dolby Atmos to play is the main menu music on the PS5. After trying multiple media services and apps I had mixed results:

I sound tested a 4k UHD disc (the boy and the heron), making sure the disc audio settings were set to dolby atmos, and the app only showed dolby 5.1.

On hulu, netflix, and HBO max I played dolby atmos recommended movies and had either PCM 2.0 show on the app, or on MAX the app showed dolby atmos but there was no sound (at all) coming from the era 300s.I attempted to use the native hulu app on my television, in that scenario the era’s were creating sound but the sonos app showed PCM 2.0.

I downloaded apple music on my PS5 an played a spatial audio playlist, it also would only show dolby 5.1 on the sonos app (albeit the era 300s were working).

I have restarted all devices and am unsure of what other steps I need to take to remedy the problem. Is there a device/video/application that I can use to verify atmos is working? I just bought the era 300’s refurbished from Sonos and want to make sure they are working correctly.

Set the TV to these settings:

HDMI-eARC Mode: Auto
Digital Output Audio Format: Pass-Through

Set the PS5 to these settings:

Output Device: HDMI Device (AV amplifier)
HDMI Device Type: AV amplifier
Number of Channels: 7.1 ch or 5.1 ch
Audio Format (Priority): Linear PCM for gaming or when watching a DTS-encoded Blu-ray disc. When streaming 5.1 content from the PS5 or watching a Dolby TrueHD encoded Blu-ray disc, change this setting to Dolby Audio. When playing any native Dolby Atmos content or games that use the 3D audio engine, use the new Dolby Atmos setting.

When watching Blu-ray discs, there is another audio setting that must be adjusted when you start the disc. Tap the Options button on the controller, select the “…” and change the Audio Format setting to Bitstream for Dolby-encoded discs. Change this setting to Linear PCM for DTS-encoded discs.

Important Note:

With Netflix and Max, you need the highest tier subscription to get Dolby Atmos audio.

The PS5 doesn’t support Dolby Atmos audio on most streaming apps. I know that it is supported on Disney+ but don’t believe it is supported on Netflix, Max, or Hulu on the PS5.
