playbar tv remote

I have just purchased a playbar from marketplace.

plugged into my TV via optic, sound works through TV however, volume is stuck on one volume and can only adjust via the app.

The tv remote is compatible with the the playbar however, it just won’t connect. Do I need to use a hdmi-optic converter to go from optic to hdmi in the tv for it to work? This is what I have gathered online however, seems counterintuitive to have to buy an adaptor in order for tv remote to work on tv to playbar?

Make sure that volume in your TV menu is set to “Variable” and not “Fixed”.

Volume controls are not carried through an optic connection. You’d need to ensure your remote is using IR, and connect the remote to the PLAYBAR via the instructions here:

Hi, thanks for engaging in this. However, I have followed this process multiple times and the TV remote and Sonos are just not connecting. The remote is IR and CEC on. Sonos not picking up remote

CEC will make no difference as you are connected via optical.  What remote are you using?
