Pairing LG magic remote with Playbase

I have had to factory reset my Sonos playbase to get it back on the network.  Since that moment I have been unable to pair the LG magic remote with the playbase.

I have been through many posts which explain how to do this, and have tried every combination of instructions use the LG device connector, choosing Philips as the make as Sonos does not appear.  I have followed the post that describes using the Sonos app with ‘replace remote’, but this does not appear on my version (iphone) of the app.  That post seems to be from several years ago.

Does anyone have any ideas?  The LG tv is a 2016 OLED.

I finally got this to work.  I went through the tv part again, choosing Philips.  I then used the Sonos app on iPhone to set up the remote, which this time flagged up that the remote wasn’t set up. It asked me to press the vol +, vol - and mute three times. It then worked!

Thanks for those who posted here as it spurred me on to keep trying!

Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with getting your LG Magic Remote working with your Playbase once more.

Please follow these steps from our Unable to adjust the volume using the LG Magic Remote help page:

Optical or Optical Adapter

  1. Go to the TV’s Settings menu, then select General > Device Connector.
  2. Select Component or AV for the Connection Type, then press Next.
  3. Select Optical for Sound Output, then press Next.
  4. Select or search for Sonos as the manufacturer.¹
  5. Press Done.
  6. Follow the instructions in our Set up a new TV remote with Sonos home theater speakers article to program the LG Magic Remote with your Sonos home theater speaker.

If you’re still not able to control your home theater speaker with the LG Magic Remote, try disabling SIMPLINK for the Optical connection under Settings > Sound > Sound Out.

¹If you can’t locate Sonos as a manufacturer, select Philips or Bose instead.

For future reference, we recommend that you do not factory reset Sonos products unless expressly instructed to do so. A reboot usually helps - of the product or of the router.

    I have tried all of this before posting.  When I carry out the procedure it tells me that it is done.  It just doesn’t work when I try to control the volume.

    Then I’d suggest a call to Sonos Support directly to discuss it.

    When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

    In the TV’s LG device connector, do NOT select Philips for the manufacturer of the Bluetooth/Soundbar instead in the manufacturers screen select to search and enter “Sonos” as the search term. If I remember correctly the search is cAsE SenSiTive too - so enter it as shown. In the results list select Sonos as the manufacturer and complete the setup. Then see if that may work for you.🤞

      Obviously once the TV has been setup as described, you will need to go through the Sonos TV "remote setup" - Also note I think that Simplink (CEC control) may have to be disabled in the TV settings for it to work as an IR remote - but I’m not certain about the last point, as things may vary by LG TV model.

        Thanks for reply.  Seaching for Sonos, upper and lower case, was one of the things that I had previously tried.  Once the ’s’ is typed four manufacturers appear, none of which is Sonos.

        When you mention in your second reply the ‘remote setup’ do you mean via the app?  I haven’t had success with that either.

        What I don’t understand is that I have had this working for years before I reset the playbase.

          The search for Sonos is ‘Sentence case’ with the first letter only entered as a capital, at least that was what worked for me with my  LG TV. I don’t see why most manufacturers wouldn’t work though including Philips but I found LG had added Sonos to their device connector (now called Universal Connector) database for WebOS.

          I understand too, that when connecting the Soundbar to some models via optical, then for the remote to switch to using infrared, the CEC feature for the TV (called Simplink) needs to be disabled - which is the default TV setting, but some users enable it for connecting other peripherals, also that may only apply to some models, but perhaps ensure Simplink is off before doing the remote control setup in the Sonos App - in the PlayBase ‘room’ settings.

          If still no joy after trying these things, then it’s perhaps best to contact Sonos Customer Support as mentioned previously.

            Thanks again.  Yes I tried the uppercase S but the result was as explained.  I did check for TV updates but there weren’t any, version 05.70.40.  TV is OLED55B6V so quite old!!
