"I have a playbar and need to interface optical to hdmi to take advantage of the arc hdmi port. The new tv remote does not support volume control over a direct optical connection to the soundbar. Any recommendation on what optical to hdmi converter to use? We are talking audio only here. Thank you for your advice.

So, you’re looking for an HDMI to Optical adapter. You’ve asked for the standard Sonos adapter, which is backwards from what you need.

Why do you feel the need to connect to the HDMI port on your TV, rather than an optical port? Because of the one way nature of optical, you’re not going to get either CEC (volume control) or anything higher than Dolby Digital (bandwidth limitations of optical). Which TV set are you currently trying to connect to?

Connecting to the ARC port on your TV will buy you nothing, unfortunately, if you can, you should just stay with a straight optical connection from the TV to the PLAYBAR.

Just can underline what @Airgetlam said. If your issue is the TV remote, this can only work with Playbar via IR control.
So if you are lucky and your TVs remote is IR compatible just use it and be happy. 😎

If the remote works via Bluetooth with the TV, take a closer look at the manual. Sometimes these remotes are hybrids and can be set to IR mode. If not, you have to use different remote that supports IR or to use the Sonos app.
