Quick background. Watch movies maybe once a month if that. Cut the cable long ago. Had Amazon Fire Stick connected to Sharp HDTV using playbar, mini-sub and play:1’s for rear sound as home theater setup. Had worked flawlessly for 10 years. Fire Stick started acting up and lost TV audio thru playbar around same time at some point earlier this year.  Assumed it was issue with Fire Stick. Finally purchased new Apple TV and was excited to set up but that quickly evaporated once I realized I was still not getting any audio from tv to playbar. Since the only physical connection is via optical cable I purchased a new one just in case. No matter what rabbit hole I went down I cannot get the Sonos app to recognize my optical cable. No settings on the tv have changed and if they had its a simple switch from fixed (internal speakers) to variable sound (external). This has consumed me for 2 weeks now and I’m at the point of giving up hope

I plan to call support to see if they can help but am not feeling confident after reading multiple threads with similar issues. I haven’t read  any recent threads with a definitive fix. I’ve updated the system in the last few days.

Just ranting about my frustration. Will post if by chance Sonos support is able to get my home theater system working again.

Can you try another tv?

You can get hdmi to optical converters if your tv’s optical output is bust…..

You should be able to play music from sonos app in any case as no lead required.

Yes. Those are the 2 remaining fixes I plan to try. HDMI to optical converter first since it’s the cheapest option then maybe I’ll convince myself I deserve a new TV for Black Friday. Thanks for the suggestions.

Optical converter did the trick. Picked one up off Amazon for less than $15. Apple TV into side A of converter then HDMI from side B of converter to TV and optical cable from side B of converter to Playbar. Easy peezy. Thanks!
