Hi,

Recently purchased a Sonos ray. Looking to connect it to my tv wirelessly as my tv is on the wall and I hate any visible cables. Is there anyway I can connect the optical wireless with a transmitter or anything? I have spent a Long time googling and cannot seem to come up with any answers.

No. As noted in the specifications, Ray connects to a TV via optical cable.

Your TV may well have Bluetooth, but connecting that way would be fraught with problems. Ray doesn’t have Bluetooth, so you’d need another Sonos unit which does, or use a separate BT receiver. In theory a BT receiver with an optical output could then feed the Ray but (a) the sound would be in stereo only, (b) the quality would be restricted by the BT codec, and (c) the audio would be significantly delayed, upsetting lip-sync with the TV picture.

As for ‘visible’ cables, a single-fibre optical connection can be as little as a couple of mm in diameter.

Might fixing the Ray to the wall help, simply using the official Sonos wall bracket and getting it close to the bottom of the TV and ‘perhaps’ linking its power supply to the TV’s power supply, so all cables go behind the TV and hopefully hide all.

Here is the bracket (see link below) and attached is an ‘example’ photo of what it might look like (except Ray would of course be closer to the TV to hide any cable connections).

No idea if this world work or how well. Just the first I found so an example, not a recommendation.
